Exploring Scripture and Author's Purpose through The Parable of the Good Samaritan
Last week in Religion, our Year 5 students explored the parable of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25–37). They reflected on how understanding the author’s purpose helps us interpret the deeper meaning of scripture. Students then created their own images, prayers, and stories inspired by Parables, before sharing thoughtful ideas and making personal connections about how they can live like Good Samaritans in 2025 through kindness, compassion, and helping others in need.
Year 6
Literary Style: Poetry - Exploring Psalms
This term, our Year 6 students explored the beautiful poetry of the Book of Psalms, a collection of songs, prayers, and poems that praise God. Many of these were written by King David, who played them on his harp long before he became king. The Psalms teach us to thank God, seek His guidance in times of need, and trust in His constant presence.
In class, students read Psalm 23, reflected on its meaning, and answered questions to deepen their understanding. They then wrote their own Psalms, inspired by the structure of Psalm 23 or alternative formats. These original Psalms will be shared during morning prayer and showcase the creativity and thoughtfulness of our Year 6 students.
Thank you to Alex, Elsie and Emily for sharing their work below.
Gospel Reflection - Sunday 9th of November
Feast of the Dedication of the Lateran Basilica in Rome
📖Together as a family, read the gospel
John 2:13-22
👨👩👧👦 Family Connection
Families take pride in their homes and strive to keep them neat and clean inside and out.
- Talk as a family about the various chores that each family member has that contributes to the upkeep of the home.
- Thank each member for doing his or her chores and encourage everyone to take pride in the home.
This Sunday, the Church celebrates one of its very special homes: the Basilica of St. John Lateran in Rome. Discuss that this basilica is the seat of the Bishop of Rome, the Pope, and that, as we celebrate its dedication, we are reminded of the people the building represents: the Pope and all God's people throughout the world.
Together say: When we celebrate the dedication of this great church, we are reminded of our own parish church where we gather to celebrate and, even more so, of our domestic church, our home, where we encounter God every day.
Remind family members that when they are asked to do chores or help around the house, they are contributing to the upkeep of the home.
🙏 Pray together as a Family
Loving God,
Help us to remember that You are always with us.May we care for our hearts, minds, and bodies as sacred spaces filled with Your love.Guide us to act with kindness, respect, and compassion each day.
Amen.
May God bless,
