Regattas Commence. Congratulations to our Senior Rowing Team.
What a stellar start to the season. Our SVC rowers showed remarkable teamwork, determination, and speed across all races at their first regatta, two weeks ago.
A standout performance came from our U19 Men’s 8+, who claimed victory. The first time St Virgil’s has won this event in over 30 years, and the first win since the College reinstated Year 11 & 12 sport. An incredible achievement!

Blessing of the Boats
Last Thursday evening, our rowing community came together with St Mary's at the New Town Bay Rowing Centre for the annual Blessing of the Boats, a tradition marking the start of the new season.
Led by Fr Suresh, the ceremony offered a moment of reflection and gratitude for the season ahead. The evening also saw the announcement of our 2025 Rowing Captains.
It was wonderful to see so many students, parents, staff, and friends of the program gather in support.
Special thanks to our Parent Supporters for organising a BBQ for the rowing community.
Go Team sVc.

Coolangatta Gold
Special Recognition for Year 10 Student Athlete Ewan McIlwraith.
Ewan demonstrated remarkable grit, determination, dedication, and resilience by competing in the iconic Coolangatta Gold on the weekend of October 18 and 19.
Although he was not old enough to participate in the revamped 25.6km course, he took on the challenge of the 12.5km Sprint Event on Saturday, finishing an impressive 81st out of 199 participants. His race consisted of a 7km surf ski, a 500m run, a 1km swim, another 500m run, a 2km board paddle, and concluded with a 1.5km run. The surf conditions on the day tested even the elite competitors, not to mention the extremely soft sand for the transition legs.
Ewan's tenacity was further showcased as he returned on Sunday for the 3.25km Dash Event, where he achieved an incredible 6th place out of 44 participants. He narrowly missed the U17 podium, finishing just 4th, as the top three contenders had not competed the previous day.
These results are truly remarkable for Ewan, especially considering the challenges of training for such events in Hobart during winter, compared with his mainland competitors.

Congratulations, Ewan! We look forward to watching your results over the summer surf season.

Regional Basketball Championships
What an exhilarating weekend of basketball action for Team sVc at the 2025 Basketball Tasmania Southern Regional Championships! After a rigorous selection process during the competitive Term 3 trials and a month filled with intense training, all four teams entered the championships brimming with confidence and readiness.
The results that unfolded over the weekend were nothing short of extraordinary. For the second consecutive year, Team sVc achieved the remarkable feat of winning every game across all four divisions, sealing their status as champions in the Year 7/8 Divisions 1 and 2, and Year 9/10 Divisions 1 and 2.
Throughout the tournament, the impressive skills on display, coupled with exceptional teamwork, unwavering tenacity, and a spirit of sportsmanship, illuminated the courts. Each player embodied a 'never say die' attitude, which resonated not just in their gameplay but also in their camaraderie off the court.
A heartfelt thank you to our devoted parents and staff, whose passion and commitment shone brightly as they stepped up to coach and manage our teams. Your support was invaluable! And we cannot forget the incredible sVc Cheer Squad! Your enthusiasm and unwavering encouragement uplifted all our teams, creating an atmosphere of unity and school spirit that was truly special. Our gratitude extends to Basketball Tasmania for their coordination of the tournament, along with all the match officials and referees.
Congratulations to everyone involved in this monumental achievement, and best of luck to our Division 1 teams as they gear up for the State Championships in Launceston on November 22-23. Let's carry this momentum forward!
