Messages of Hope:

Remembering the 2011 Japan Earthquake and Tsunami

On March 11, 2011, Japan was devastated by the Great North-Eastern Earthquake, Tsunami and nuclear reactor disaster, claiming the lives of over 20,000 people.

This date now symbolizes an integral part of the overall Japanese cultural fabric and identity.

To commemorate this tragedy, students composed a message of hope and love. These messages will be sent to a significantly impacted school in Minami Sanriku, arguably the most impacted region, to convey our respect and remembrance for those affected, and to affirm that their experiences have not been forgotten.

The lesson, which has been integrated across all year levels of Japanese, significantly enhances student engagement, awareness, empathy, and gratitude.

Understanding Spiritual Practices Across Faiths

This term, our Year 10 Christian Living unit has focused on the topic of Spirituality. Students have explored the meaning of the term "spiritual" and examined how it is expressed in both religious and secular contexts. They have also reflected on their own spiritual journeys and engaged with Christian spiritual practices such as prayer, as well as the ways we express Christian spirituality at Endeavour.

To deepen their understanding of spiritual practices across different faiths, Year 10 students recently had guest speakers from the Abraham Institute come in. These speakers shared personal insights into how spirituality is lived out in their own traditions, offering perspectives from both Jewish and Muslim practices.

A key takeaway from the session was the shared belief across all faiths that spirituality is not confined to rituals or beliefs.

It is something we embody in our everyday actions. It influences how we treat others and the kind of life we choose to lead.

Faisal spoke about worship as a holistic experience involving body, soul, actions, and intentions. Meanwhile, Rachel and Katherine highlighted the importance of rest and connection through the practice of Shabbat.

Understanding other faiths is important as it assists to foster respect, empathy, and harmony in a diverse world. This awareness helps break down stereotypes, reduce prejudice, and encourages meaningful dialogue and cooperation across cultures.

It also allows us to reflect on our own beliefs, deepen our understanding of spirituality, and appreciate the shared human values, such as compassion, integrity, and community, that connect us all.

Igniting Imagination

The 2025 Arts and Technologies Exhibition, Igniting Imagination, was held on Thursday Week 3.

Stage 2 students exhibited work across all areas of Art and Technology and were supported by peers performing music, preparing and serving food and taking photographs.

All Stage 2 Art and Technologies students should be very proud of the work they produced and the many months of refinement and dedication to their final products.

A special congratulations to Kaitlin, recipient of the Principal’s Award for Technologies, and Xenia, recipient of the Principal’s Award for the Arts.

We are immensely proud of all students and staff involved in pulling together such a fantastic event. It was a fantastic night celebrating and supporting the creative journey of our Arts and Technologies students.

Metropolitan Fire Service presenting their Road Awareness Program

On Thursday of Week 3 Endeavour College was again host to the MFS RAP program presented by Firefighter David and road crash survivor Locky.

The presentation used case studies, scenarios and first person testimony to highlight road safety, the risks of inattentive driving, and how young people are over-represented in road trauma statistics. While hard hitting and at times confronting, it forced our students to consider the responsibilities of drivers and passengers, as well as the physical and emotional consequences that result when things go wrong.

Locky recounted the horrific injuries he sustained from a crash caused by the inattentive action of another road user, and how the impact of this changed his life forever with a long and arduous recovery. Listening to his journey through successive surgeries and a recovery process that involved having to learn to walk and talk again, students were touched by his courage and humility.

The folowing are reflections from students:

“Really powerful. It made me reflect on my driving and helped me to see I need to be a responsible driver at all times”

“The presentation was really inspirational and eye opening. David did a great job explaining the risks on the road and how we can be more responsible. Locky’s story was amazing and very inspirational”

Before the presentation 45% of the cohort identified as being responsible drivers, after the presentation 100% indicated they planned to be responsible road users in the future.

We look forward to the RAP program being an annual presentation to our Year 11 students.
