From the Principal

Dear Endeavour College Families,
Each year, independent schools across Australia gain valuable insight into family priorities through the 'What Parents Want' survey, conducted by Independent Schools Queensland (ISQ).
Running since 1996, it is Australia’s longest-standing study of how parents choose schools. The 2025 findings provide a rich view of long-term trends.
Parents consistently prioritise preparing students to reach their potential, with high-quality teaching, strong discipline, and clear teaching philosophy leading their decisions. Subject breadth, facilities, and post-school pathways also influence choice. First impressions count—73% said a school’s appearance and facilities were highly influential.
Finding the right fit is equally important. Over half of parents said their child’s opinion strongly shaped the decision, underscoring the value of student voice. A strong reputation, effective behaviour management, and positive culture signal trust and reliability.
Timing and information sources also matter. Many parents begin exploring options two years in advance, with 23% considering schools before their child’s birth. Family and friends, open days, and online presence, particularly websites and social media, are key information sources.
Parents value opportunities to meet teachers, leaders, students, and other families to experience the school’s culture firsthand.
At Endeavour College, these insights guide our ongoing commitment to providing a personalised, high-quality Lutheran education. We focus on knowing and supporting each student individually, maintaining excellent facilities, and fostering strong relationships between teachers, students, and families. We encourage student voice, promote responsible attitudes toward learning, and prioritise visible leadership and teacher engagement, ensuring parents can see the quality of education and care in action.
Ultimately, we know choosing the right school is about more than facilities or reputation, it’s about finding the environment where each child can thrive academically, socially, and personally. The ‘What Parents Want’ survey reinforces what the College has already been focusing on through our Strategic Plan.
Creating a community where students feel supported, challenged, and inspired to discover their God given gifts and abilities, and to equip them with the necessary skills to be capable, well-adjusted contributors to society.
As always, I am grateful to be leading this wonderful community and thank you for your support.
Mr Richard Baird
