It’s been a positive start to Term 4 for our Cricket Academy with a number of students involved in umpiring duties at the recent Bellarine and Geelong North Primary Schools Division Cricket event.

Either side or the holiday period, students engaged whole-heartedly in learning the modified rules and practising their umpiring skills during class. Just prior to the event, representatives from Cricket Victoria were onsite to provide more formal instruction, guidance and advice.

Despite super-challenging weather conditions at South Barwon Reserve, twelve students across Year 9-11 umpired and scored several games in succession, providing a positive experience for all participants.

Feedback from the event organiser was highly encouraging –

In very trying conditions, students from Lara SC were exceptional, displaying professionalism, enthusiasm, and a genuine love for the game. They were a real credit to your school and a brilliant reflection of your newly introduced cricket program. We truly value this partnership and look forward to continuing to work together in the years ahead.”

During the week following, both our Intermediate and Junior cricket teams competed at interschool sports carnivals. Once again, exceptional examples of teamwork, commitment and respect were on display. Of particular note, our Year 7/8 team performed admirably, falling just short in a shortened T10 match against a strong Belmont SC - who went on to win the event. Sunny G (7D) and Jed W (7A) bowled accurately to restrict boundaries, while Royce L (8A) was tidy behind the stumps with the gloves. Captain, Avaniish K (8A) blasted a quickfire 20 (retired), including a couple of monster sixes! Likewise, Oscar C (7A) lifted the scoring rate late in the innings, but Belmont proved too good on this occasion.

Batting first during our consolation match again Surf Coast SC, Vice-Captain Lachlan B (8D) played a controlled unbeaten innings of 20 (retired) to set a competitive target. Despite a shaky start with the ball, our middle-late order bowlers restricted the scoring with wickets falling regularly to secure our first win!
