Victorian School Garden Program Incursion- Year 5 Students
In week 4 Term 4, the year five cohort was taught by Caitlin from the Victorian School Garden Program. We learned about how native Australian plants and insects are important to the community and how they help each other's survival. We were very privileged to spend 50 minutes learning with Caitlin.
First, we had a quick conversation with Caitlin about insects and their habitats. We then discussed how some insects are pests and some are not.
Afterwards, we got into partners and enjoyed the outdoors by planting Australian plants of our choice. We placed three to four sticks around our plant to shield it from bouncing basketballs and other things that could damage the plant.
We also learned about how to care for them by watering them daily, and how some plants need full sun, and some don’t need much sun. We had a lot of fun planting in our garden and learning about insects and nature. Thank you, Caitlin!

New Garden Beds
A big thank you to Emma (Jude’s mum) for planning and helping our Year 1 students plant the new garden beds next to the sandpit. The students loved learning about the different plants and how to care for them.
