Classroom Reports

Foundation
Our maths lessons have been full of fun and hands-on learning! Students have been using coins to explore two-digit numbers through our Pizza Shop and Fruit & Vegetable Shop activities. The children loved taking turns as customers and shopkeepers, adding prices, and practising their number skills in real-life situations. These games have helped us understand how numbers and money connect in everyday life.
One of the highlights of last week was cooking with Miss Douglas! The children had a fantastic time making spiders and chocolate balls. They followed recipes, measured ingredients, and worked together beautifully. It was a fun (and delicious!) way to practise listening, counting, and following instructions.
In literacy, we’ve been reading Winston and the Indoor Cat, a wonderful story that helped us discuss friendship, curiosity, and trying new experiences. We also learned some exciting new vocabulary — words like “exhilarating”, which the children enjoyed using in their own sentences and drawings.
Next, we’ll begin reading Banjo and Ruby Red, a heartwarming tale about unlikely friendships. We can’t wait to see what lessons and language this story will bring!
Don’t forget to keep reading at home and chatting about the stories you share together!

We’re excited to share that our brand-new school hats have arrived! They’re looking fantastic, and it’s great to see students proudly wearing them as the weather warms up. All hats have names on them so make sure students do their best to hold onto these.
Our class novel reading is going extremely well! Students are buying into this which allows them to further understand the novel and be rewarded from this. Grade 3’s have now moved onto ‘The Wild Robot Escapes’, while grade 4’s are up to ‘The Wild Robot Protects’. Just a reminder that there will be some chapters for students to read over the weekend to ensure that we finish these novels before the end of the school year.
Additionally, Tuesday 18th of November is our excursion to the Wedderburn CFA Station, if you have not already, please return consent forms at your earliest convenience.
Thank you to all families for your support and communication throughout the year, this has helped students immensely!

A Short but Busy Week!
Last week may have been a short one with Monday’s Curriculum Day and Tuesday’s Melbourne Cup, but it’s been busy nonetheless!
Our Unit 3 & 4 exams are now well underway, with several students already completing their exams and a few more still to go. Keep up the fantastic effort — as our old school motto once said, “There’s no reward without effort!”
Camp forms were handed out last week, and we’re all looking forward to our upcoming trip to Torquay. The highlight is sure to be our MasterChef Challenge, where we’ll see which teams can whip up the best gourmet dishes. Hopefully, they can top the famous “packet fish and chips” from a few years ago! 🍟👨🍳
College Leadership Nominations have now closed, and we’re eagerly awaiting the announcement of our 2026 School Captains, SRC Leaders, and House Captains in the coming weeks. It’s always exciting to see students stepping up to lead and represent their peers — well done to everyone who put their hand up!
To cap things off, we’ve included a little flashback to the end of last term, featuring some great photos from Youth Week and the hilarious “Dress Up Like a Teacher” Day! See if you can work out which teachers the Year 11s were trying to impersonate...
Mr G’s Study Tip – Revise Smart!
When revising for exams, don’t just re-read your notes — use them! Try this simple method:1️⃣ Read a short section of notes.2️⃣ Close your book and summarise it out loud or write down key points from memory.3️⃣ Check what you missed, then repeat until you can recall it confidently.
This “active recall” technique helps move information from short-term memory into long-term memory — meaning it’ll stick when you need it most in the exam! 🧠

VET Allied Health Placement - Real World Learning
Each Thursday for the past five weeks, VET Allied Health students from the North Central Trade Training Centre have been undertaking Structured Workplace Learning; a compulsory component of their studies.
Kaitlyn undertook her placement with Inglewood and Districts Health Services. During her placement, Kaitlyn shadowed a range of staff, which gave her insight into many aspects of life at IDHS. She provided support with tasks such as planned activities and assisting with the movement of patients and residents. Kaitlyn noted how beneficial it was to be able to apply what she was learning in her Certificate III studies to a real-world setting. The experience enabled her to gain insight into the complexities and responsibilities associated with different facets of the health care industry.
Staff at IDHS spoke very highly of Kaitlyn and her attentiveness to tasks, caring and supportive nature, and her willingness to get involved.
Well done to Kaitlyn for being such wonderful ambassador for the NCTTC and Wedderburn College!
