The importance of regular school attendance.
At Mount Beauty Secondary College, we prioritise and emphasize regular school attendance. We will work with families to ensure students are in class with their peers and teachers and enjoying all the benefits that brings.
Attending school every day means experiencing what counts – the learning, friendship, fun and opportunities that can shape your child’s future.
We understand that there are times when your child will need to miss school but to ensure minimal disruption to their education, please consider scheduling family holidays or medical/dental appointments outside of school time. If your child is well enough to attend but is worried about friendships, schoolwork or exams, please encourage them to come to school. Avoiding school can make these feelings worse and can create a negative pattern of behaviour.
If your child is having difficulty attending school, talk to their teacher or Student Engagement Leader (Josh Davies Year 7 & 8 | Jenny Farrington Year 9 & 10 | Shantelle Stimson Year 11 & 12) about getting support.
We know that parents and carers can be juggling challenges daily to get your children to school. If your child must miss school, notify us as soon as possible via phone, email or Compass so we can work together to support them.

Parents, carers, schools, and community all play an important role in protecting children and young people from, and educating them about, the harmful effects of smoking and vaping.
Research from VicHealth shows that young people care about what their parents, carers and older siblings think and do about vaping.
The Department of Education has developed resources to help you learn more about the health risks of smoking and vaping. The resources include advice about how to talk to children and young people about vaping, and where to get support. To access these resources, click here.
This link takes you to a website with great information and a clip to watch on smoking and vaping from experts at the Royal Children’s Hospital Melbourne. It includes health advice and tips for starting a conversation with young people.
As part of Mount Beauty Secondary College's partnership with VIC SRC we have finalised our Teach the Teacher program via a debriefing session. Students reflected on their role; how impactful their knowledge sharing was and the feedback from staff. This initiative, which was led by the students has had a significant impact on the staff and their reflections on student experiences. I look forward to other Teacher the Teacher programs in years to come.
