Principal's Report
Simone Roy
The official VCAA external exams started this week, and English was the first exam, held on Tuesday at the Auditorium. Students sitting the exams have officially finished school, however they all continued to model the school values, with the examiners commenting on the good behaviour of the students and how nice they all were. We all wish the students the best of luck with their exams, but need to impress upon them that one exam, a study score or an ATAR does not define who they are; rather it is their behaviour and the way they conduct themselves that does. From the majority of what we have seen of our students' behaviour and conduct over the last 6 years, they should be proud of themselves for upholding the school values, doing their best, and creating a supportive network for each other.
I met with our school reviewer, Matthew Knight, and Jody Grimmond (Senior Education Improvement Leader) this week to discuss the review and what will be covered over the 3 days. Forums with all students and staff are the focus for Day 2 of the Review, being held on Wednesday 19th November. A forum for families is being held on Tuesday the 18th of November at 6pm in Room 9. All parents/caregivers are welcome.
For the first time in a number of years, there are some changes to the subjects that are being offered to our Year 8-10 students for 2026. Some of these are due to the changes to the Victorian Curriculum, with the second iteration being implemented across Victoria next year in all subjects. There are also updates in how we are delivering the curriculum, by including a broader range of topics from areas in the curriculum within some subjects, instead of breaking them down into more specific topics. We have also had to update some subjects and replace old versions with alternatives, to ensure thcurriculum and policy are being implemented.
While we know that changes may lead to some students being disappointed when a particular subject isn't running, these decisions are never made lightly, are always made in the best interest of the students, and in order to continue to improve the curriculum we offer.
The Term 4 Mid Term Progress Reports will be published to families in Compass on Friday the 31st of October. These reports focus on learning behaviours, with all students expected to be able to achieve a score of 3 for each habit. Please note, homework is not assessed this time but will be assessed in the Week 8 Progress Reports. If you have any questions about these reports, please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s teacher or the relevant Student Engagement Leader.
