Principal Chat

Dear Parents, families, and students

As we approach the middle of another busy and eventful term, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on all the wonderful experiences we've had together. It's been a whirlwind of fun, learning, and community events!

One of the highlights of the term has been the incredibly successful Transition Program that has run every Friday. We've had a blast welcoming our fabulous Niangala Nippers to our school as they prepare for Kindergarten. The excitement, energy, and enthusiasm they've brought have been infectious, and we look forward to watching these little learners continue to grow in the coming year.

In addition to the Transition Program, we also had some fun with some "Half-day of Halloween" celebrations. While the afternoon was packed with team-building and problem-solving activities, the most memorable moment came when we walked into the library to find a surprise visitor—an unexpected skeleton with red flashing eyes! I have to admit, that was not quite what I was expecting to see when I arrived at work that morning.

We also had the wonderful opportunity to welcome parents and grandparents into our school for a portrait drawing session. It was so heartwarming to see families connect with the school and share in the creative process with the students. I know the students really enjoyed this special time, and we’re grateful to all those who took part.

Speaking of fun, we had a fantastic Beach to Bush day, where our students came dressed as lifeguards, ready to learn about water safety. It was such a vibrant day filled with smiles, and I’m sure the students now have a better understanding of how to stay safe in and around water. A little tip for all of us as we head into the warmer months: did you know that the sun can be just as dangerous as bluebottles or even sharks at the beach? Let's remember to stay sun safe in the coming months!

Our students were also treated to a delicious lunch of Chicken San Chow Bow, made by Chaise with assistance from Mrs Wall. The lunch was part of a fundraiser for Chaise, and it was so lovely to see the students gathered together, sitting at a beautifully set table, enjoying their meal. Their manners were exemplary, and many students went back for seconds—always a sign of a delicious meal! Up next is our pizza lunch fundraiser, which, while perhaps not as delicious or nutritious, it promises to be just as much fun!

Earlier this term, we also had the pleasure of painting a mural, which was a fantastic way to kick off the term. The bright and cheerful artwork is now a beautiful welcome to our school and a vibrant addition to our space. We are so proud of the result, and it’s been wonderful to see how the mural has come to life with the staff's and students’ contributions.

Amidst all these exciting activities, our students and teachers have continued to work hard in the classroom. We are focused on finishing the year strong with a focus on learning and personal growth. We are proud of the progress everyone has made and grateful for the efforts of our dedicated staff who continue to inspire and guide our students.

So, in reflection, it’s no wonder that, at the end of a busy week, we’re all feeling a little tired but also full of pride for everything we’ve accomplished together. Thank you to everyone—students, staff, and families—for making this first half of the term so special.

The end of year is always an extremely busy time and looking at the calendar we have a lot of activity ahead of us, so let’s continue to enjoy the final stretch of the year, and here’s to more great moments ahead!

I would also like to take this opportunity to let you know about a couple of changes the Department of Education have made to Staff Development Days in 2025. Starting next year, all students will be starting school on Thursday 6 February, following 4 school development days. These school development days provide our teachers time to be best prepared individually and collectively to implement curriculum. School development days will operate the way they always have. Students do not attend on these days as there are no timetabled lessons so staff can engage in professional development and planning. As has always been the case, where no alternative arrangements can be made, this is managed at a local school level. An updated and public list of school development days for the next 3 years can also be found on the department website.

Kind regards,
