Physical Education News

Junior School - the students have completed a variety of throwing and catching activities on their own, with a partner and as a team.

The students are beginning to differentiate between an underarm throw, overarm and chest pass and when to use each one.

Middle School - the students have been honing the skills used to play Newcombe. A net game which is a stepping stone to Volleyball. They have built on their throwing and catching skills, developed strategies used in the game and worked on communication in game play.

Senior School - students have loved the Volleyball unit in which they have attempted the four main shots used within the game. The serve, the dig, the set and the spike. They have also developed an understanding of the importance of clear communication and shot selection.

A massive congratulations to our softball team who played in the Division finals at Pakenham on Wednesday 23rd October.

They adapted to some rules changes and showed passion in what they were doing. So much so that they  progressed to the Regional finals which took place on Thursday 7th November.

Check out the detailed recount on the Student Leadership page.

Junior School

Over the past few weeks the Foundation students have been exploring the difference between needs and wants. Needs being what we need to live and survive, while wants are the things that are nice to have and make life a bit more comfortable.

The Year 1 and 2 students have continued on with our Stop, Opt and Go strategies for dealing  with our big emotions in the yard. We've talked about identifying our emotions and using our detective skills to analyse a situation. We are now moving onto how to calm our brains to make the right choice when faced with a problem.

Middle School

Year 3 have been discussing what makes a good team member and the importance of communication and clear rules when playing a game. They looked at ways to make games more fun and inclusive for everyone.

Year 4 have been discussing resilience and the different ways to be brave such as standing up for yourself, standing up to friends and standing up for others. This week was all about the importance of apologising and how to apologise so it is actually genuine.

Senior School

The year 5 and 6 students have now finished their Talk About It sessions and we have moved onto unpacking our strengths and how they can help us when faced with challenges. We've also talked about the importance of impulse control when we do face a challenge so we stop and make a good choice, rather than acting first and thinking later.

Artistic Flair

Foundation We have been linking our artwork to literature and themes in our community. Students have read the book Hugasaurus and by using a variety of mediums in the same colour such as pencil, texta, pastel and paint. Students are looking forward to using their printed papers to build their Hugasuaraus next week.

The populariy of Halloween has prompted some beautiful artworks using dry pastels. Students loved learning how to 'flick' their colour to make it look like their Halloween themed pictures were glowing.

Junior School

Year 1 and 2 students have been concentrating on learning different skills with thread. They have threaded a mane for their very own Melbourne Cup horse using the loop method and created their own Cat's Pyjamas by wrapping their thread.

Students enjoyed learning how to blend colours through using chalk pastels to create their own unique halloween moonlight scene.

Middle School

Year 3 and 4 students have completed their clay work by painting with watercolours and 'glazing' with PVA glue/water solution.  Students were excited to take their creations home.

They have also explored PROPORTION through building their own Halloween skeletons.

Senior School

Year 5 students have completed their clay animals by painting with watercolours and glazing with a PVA/water solution. They were very happy to take them home after all their hard work.

Year 6 students have been continuing their work on their legacy artwork. They are starting to come together, albeit a few painting mishaps!

Digitech

Foundations and Junior School

Students have been practising their keyboarding skills and how to create digital art this term. They have looked at the difference between traditional art and digital art and have created their own master pieces using online drawing tools. I'm so proud of all of them learning to log in with a user name and password the past two weeks, remembering the shift button to create a capital letter has prooved most challenging!

Their favourite activities were exploring Switch Zoo to create their own cray animal and Sketch Pad using the drawing tools. See their creations below!
