Unit Of Inquiry

This term our unit of inquiry central idea is ‘Animals adapt to life in their environment’.

The Approaches to Learning we are focusing on are research and communication skills.

This week the students have been learning to make predictions and form wonderings about the features of different animals. They have been working in small groups to discuss their predictions and then used the iPads to find out more information. This required them to use communication skills such as speaking to express their own ideas, listening courteously to their group and recording/displaying their information. The students found out about many animal adaptations such as webbed feet, claws, long snouts and strong talons.

During Literacy Groups the students have been studying non-fiction books. They have learnt the purpose of a Table of Contents and an Index and they understand that it is a factual, information text that uses formal language. They have had a go at creating their own page of an information text about an Australian animal. This enabled them to practice research skills such as formulating questions, collecting and interpreting data.

Swimming

The students were very excited to start the Swimming program on Monday 21st October. They showed great independence when getting themselves organized both before and after their swimming lessons.

They are working on a Swimming Diary to recount what they have learnt at the pool.
