Year 6 Mega Market

Over the past three to four weeks the year 6 cohort has been working on making a very fun and interesting mega market jam-packed with hot food sweets and fun activities to play.

The students have been sending letters to local shops such as Woolworths, Coles, IGA and other small shops and I am happy to say that we have gotten over $500 dollars from all the donations!

Respectful Relationships

Year 6 have been exploring about respectful relationships. This week the year 6s have done a task where they had to find a partner and experiment doing multiple activities. These activities included controlling your partner with your hand where they had to follow it with their nose. The other activity was where your partner had to follow your actions like a mirror. The year 6s enjoyed the second experiment more than the first, because they didn’t feel like they were being controlled.

Remembrance Day

Just a reminder for all parents to remember to come to the Remembrance Day ceremony on Monday, the 11 November. The 6C and 6D students will be speaking for the ceremony and veteran soldier Grant that represents our school each year for the ANZAC day/Remembrance Day speeches will also speak for the ceremony.

Please bring flowers as the flower Barers collects them all from each class to put in a remembrance pile.

Memoir

Recently in Year 6, we have started our primary school memoirs. The memoirs are where we write about special memories from each year level and then add photos to help boost our memories even more. So far, we have made a front cover, finished prep and have almost finished Year 1.

Once we’ve completed all of the year levels our memoirs will be bound as a book for us to look back on in future years. It’s been very funny and adorable looking back at all the photos from our younger years but sometimes difficult to try and remember what happened in those years. We’re really excited to keep writing about our primary school memories and see how our completed memoirs turn out!

APSMO

During Term 2 and 3, a handful of the Grade 6’s were chosen to take part in an extended maths program called APSMO, which stands for Australasian Problem-Solving Mathematical Olympiads. It is a maths competition, where schools compete against other schools, and it’s really fun. Every week on a Thursday, we are given five questions each that challenge our thinking and problem-solving skills.

I think we all enjoyed it, and we would highly recommend next year’s grade 6’s to join!

Girls Basketball

The Girls’ basketball was held on Wednesday 16 October and we were all pumped and ready for the day ahead!

Our first game was against Cornish college, and we won by 20. Our second game was agents Mention grammar. We were really nervous to play them because they are almost a full team of rep players (and were planning to only put them on.) By halfway we were losing by 25 but we kept pushing and got the score up and, in the end, we only lost by ten.

Our last game was against so-called hardest team Cheltenham they were undefeated. The buzzer was off, and we were off to a roll start and started the game of with a couple of goals. As the end of the game was coming to an end the score was getting closer and closer when the final buzzer went it was 19-17 to them, but Ella got two shots she shot and it got in, we all cheered in happiness shacking from the excitement, but she still had one shot left to even to score. She bounced the ball…. lifted it up ………aimed ………. shot…….and it went in!!!!!

We tied against the team who beat Melton grammar. In the end Cheltenham went to the final. Even though we didn’t win we all had a great day and are so proud of ourselves
