Grade 4
Reading
Students are getting ready to read the mentor text "Fox" by Margaret Wild after exploring some background information. We explored background information about some of our Australian flora and fauna, as well as Australian animals (foxes, magpies). We have also begun NAPLAN practice throughout our daily reviews and fluency reading.
Writing
Week 1: Students began to learn a new style of poetry; Clerihew!
Students were introduced to clerihew poetry and the rules that they must follow. A clerihew poem is a whimsical four-line verse that humorously describes a person. The rhyme scheme is AABB, and the first line typically starts or ends with the person's name.
Week 2: Students began revising how to write personal recounts. As we recently went on an excursion to the MCG/Australian Sports Museum, students were able to use this event to write their recounts.
Maths
In Maths, Year 4 students have explored probability and chance. They enjoyed engaging with hands-on activities, like tossing coins and rolling dice, to understand how likely different outcomes are. Students have learned to predict and express chances, making maths both exciting and relatable.
Integrated
As it is the start of a fresh term, it was important for the Year 4’s to revisit our school values. We discussed the importance of each one of our values and how we can display these values while at school.
MCG/Australian Sports Museum Excursion
Our excursion to the MCG was a fantastic experience! We toured the iconic stadium, soaking in its rich history, before heading to the Australian Sports Museum. There, we explored various exhibits including the Olympic and AFL areas and had the amazing opportunity to meet Reba Stewart (Tokyo 2020 Taekwondo participant) for an engaging Q&A session. This was a terrific excursion for students as we previously wrapped up Term 3 with an inquiry unit on the history of the Olympic Games.
