Grade 3
Reading
Our Grade 3 students are delving into LaRue for Mayor: Letters from the Campaign Trail by Mark Teague. As they follow Ike LaRue’s campaign journey, they’re refining literacy skills, including using keywords to visualise scenes and events. Students are also practising their critical thinking by asking both thick and thin questions about the text. These activities help them engage more deeply with the story, while learning about persuasive language, letter writing, and the responsibility of voting.. Stay tuned for some exciting campaign-inspired learning!
Maths
Last week in maths, Grade 3 students began the new term practising their skills using addition, subtraction and multiplication strategies to get themselves ready for a busy final term of learning. This week, students are exploring the inverse (opposite) relationship between addition and subtraction and are learning how to use this to find missing values.

Last week, our Grade 3 students delved into the importance of 'Country' for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We explored the concept of 'Country' through the book Welcome to Country by Aunty Joy Murphy, learning how Aboriginal people care for the land and the special cultural and spiritual connection they have with it. Students also reflected on their own relationship with the land and shared ways they can respect and care for their local environment.
In our wellbeing lesson, we focused on the difference between being a bystander and an upstander. After watching Ned Talk: Be an Upstander, students discussed how they can step in to help others when they see unfair treatment. They then acted out scenarios, showing how an upstander would respond to include and support others. It was a great way for students to practise kindness and inclusion in a fun and interactive way!
