IN THE CLASSROOM…
Body Percussion
Students learnt and practised body percussion routines this term. Our Prep students learnt how our bodies can be used as percussion instruments, and explored how to use different parts of the body to create sounds and rhythmic patterns. Year 1/2 students practised the “Sevens Challenge”, and performed this both independently and in a group. Students also used the metronome to see how fast they can play the “Sevens Challenge” while still keeping in time and remembering all the actions! Year 3/4 students worked on a body percussion routine based on the classical piano piece, “Turkish March (Alla Turca)” composed by Mozart. They not only have to memorise the actions, but also work together in a group, as some of the moves are completed in groups! The year 5/6s also practised a body percussion routine, and theirs was based on the piano piece, “Hungarian Dance” composed by Brahms in the Romantic period. The year 5/6s were challenged to memorise a set of complicated moves that required clapping, stomping, kneeling down, turning to their left and rights and also coordinating with their peers. Though it was hard at first, they did a spectacular job and managed to pull it off in the end!
Ukuleles
Students have started a new unit on the ukuleles in Music. The junior students have started learning how to safely and correctly hold the ukuleles, while our senior students are revising and re-learning the chords C, Am, F and G. Students have had opportunities to play with various songs using the chords they have learnt.I can’t wait to see how they progress on the ukuleles over the next few weeks!
