Children's Forum

On the 24th October, the four school leaders went to a Children's Forum at the City Hall. There were many other leaders from many different schools. The Junior Mayor was also there. Her name was Gemma. I was very surprised when I found out she was only in Year 6. We did many activities including two different workshops, badge making, meeting an artist, painting and mini brain breaks in between the activities. One of the workshops was a sport one where we had to come up with a new sport to keep people active and the other one was an art activity where we had to make a collage. The other activity was badge making. We had to write a word that describes us and put it on a badge. My personal favourite was when we met an artist and had to pick a word and draw what that word means to us. I also enjoyed talking to other captains and listening to what they had to say. After the Children’s Forum ended, we got plants and a bag, before heading back to school.

My experience at the 2024 Children’s Forum was a wonderful and insightful experience. One of my favourite things I experienced there was meeting local change makers like the Junior Mayor and multiple other student changemakers. Changemakers are basically people who make a change in any community. This can be change in your local community or in the wider community, like Victoria. This experience taught me that truly anyone can make a change or difference and become a changemaker.

We also had the opportunity to experience four wonderful different activities. The first one was truly my favourite because we made a badge about who we are as an individual. I made a badge of determination, as I think I am a really determined person who doesn’t give up. I also liked the last activity where we made a piece of art on a message we want to share with the world. My artwork’s message was kindness.

We went to the Children's Forum to get ideas from different school leaders from different schools in our local area. We also went there to make the community a better place. My favourite part of the Children's Forum was the workshops because I made a new friend named Gemma! The first workshop we did was to make a new game to encourage children to play outside more. Our idea was called dodgeball-spinoff,  which is a game filled with obstacles and athletics! I enjoyed the brain break called ‘sevens.’ We also met and professional artist and did a harmony painting. I did happiness, Jordan did kindness, Crystal did togetherness and Hayden did Friendship. The Children’s Forum inspired me and reminded me that I can make a difference in our community.

On 24th October,  I went to the annual Children’s Forum. I really enjoyed going to this event and getting other ideas from other schools. I had a very good time working with other schools to get new ideas. In one of the workshops, I got to work on my creativity, we had to design a picture collage about some type of art. I also got the chance to be interviewed by the City of Greater Dandenong Council and will hopefully be going on the website. I enjoyed getting to know what a changemaker is. I thought this was a great event especially because it is one of my last events as the 2024 ARPS School Captain.
