Art, Music, PE & STEM

STEM
This week in STEM, Preps started their new unit of work – their focus was to sort animals based upon how they move, whether that be by slithering, swimming or flying, amongst others.
Grades 1-6 had a ‘STEM Challenge Week’. Students worked in small groups to design on a mini whiteboard, build and evaluate a free-standing tower using only 1m of tin foil. Lots of persistence and resilience on display!

PE REPORT
This week’s learning focus was teamwork and how we demonstrate teamwork in PE.
All classes started the lessons with some Indoor Hockey Skills focusing on running with the ball and passing.
Junior students then moved on to the popular game of ‘Kick ball’ Where students work as team to get as many points as possible for their team.
The games were played in fantastic spirits with all students contributing to their team’s score.
To finish off the lesson Junior students played a quick reaction game.
The senior students continued with Floor Hockey and played a game called beat the goalie where they got to try and shoot and score a goal against a defending goalkeeper. Next week Year 3 to 6 students will play some floor hockey games.
This week the PE awards go to:
Louis Crane – For giving all activities his best effort, and improving every week.
Violet Hibberd – For giving all activities her best effort and helping others do the same.
1/2B – Working well as a team and demonstrating sportsmanship when playing games.

In The Artroom
This week students commenced their study of Japanese art. We have started with the famous artist Yayoi Kusama – popular for her polka dot rooms and pumpkins and her infinity rooms where she uses mirrors to produce an amazing effect.
The Preps. Grade 1 and 2s created Yayoi inspired polka dot pumpkins and mushrooms – using paints, pencils and crayons.
Grades 3 & 4 and 5 & 6 designed a title page in their artbooks using special Japanese papers and bubble writing. They also completed a theory sheet based on Yayoi.
This week artclub was on Tuesday for gr 1 and 2s. Wednesday for gr 5 and 6.
Gr 6 will commence art extension next week.
There are currently two local art exhibitions that can be entered by students. They are the 2024 CAVENDISH FLEECE AND FLOWER SHOW and the BYADUK SPRING SHOW. Please see Ms Brown if you are interested in entering as an individual as the school won’t be entering student’s artwork for these shows.
Artist of the week awards go to:
- Layla Nice
- Mitch Walker
- Rhonin Algar
Mr Stephens would also like to award gr 1/2B a certificate for the last week of term 3.
Well done to everyone on a brilliant week of Art!
