AROUND THE SCHOOL (1 & 2)

MUSIC AT BHCS LATELY

BY HANNAH DENNY (HEAD OF MUSIC)

It is lovely to observe the music department developing a strong culture of community. All practice rooms are booked for every recess and lunch, sometimes weeks in advance. There are ensembles rehearsing in the main room every lunchtime, and many of the instrumental teachers have waiting lists. At the end of term 1, selected students participated in the CSEN Music Showcase, this allowed students to perform in large ensembles and mix with students from schools across the state. In May, selected students were invited to perform at the Belgrave Heights Seniors Convention. The audience members were thrilled by the entertainment provided and enjoyed the opportunity to chat with the students after the performance. Last week selected instrumental students were invited to perform at the Soiree. A wonderful evening of music, food and fellowship, all students performed well, using their skills to glorify God and entertain others.

Well done to all the students who walk through the music department doors, you continue to be most welcome as we build a culture of community in playing music together.

MORE BASKETBALL SUCCESS

BY GLENN BOOTH (SECONDARY TEACHER)

BHCS comes home again with more basketball success. Last Tuesday our Year 9/10 basketball teams competed for the first time in the Victorian State School Championships at State Basketball Centre.

Both teams played against all basketball academy schools and were extremely competitive with them. Our teams played amazing basketball but also showed the great culture and respect that we enjoy at BHCS.

The boys missed the finals by 2 goals and only lost to the eventual winners on the day, they were definitely in the top two teams in their competition. MVP went to Flynn R who was instrumental to their success on the day up both ends of the floor, including throwing down 3 dunks in one game in a Year 9/10 competition.

The girls dropped one game by a point in a game they dominated but did not get the rolls or deflections and were unlucky to drop the game but after getting that out of their system they did not put a foot wrong including winning the grand final by 8 points.

The MVP for the day went to Chelsea H including hitting two three pointers in the grand final and preventing the opposition getting any momentum in the big dance.

The girls now progress to the State Championship finals on Wednesday 25th of June at State Basketball Centre. All the best girls, keep being awesome!
