Year Four

Spotlight on Learning

Jericho Community

Dear Families,

Can you believe we are into week seven of the term? It is certainly going by quickly. This week we have been exploring shape and creating both regular and irregular shapes. The students have also used shapes to create some great pictures.

We have continued to learn about the impact that colonisation has had on Aboriginal people and we have been learning some self-regulation strategies to support ourselves when we are feeling frustrated or in need of a brain break.

Please remember that Monday is a Public Holiday for the King's birthday and on Tuesday morning we have the Multicultural parade. The Jericho community will also participate in a visit from the Sikh community and share in a Langar meal.

Next Week we are learning about...

Religious Education Focus

Next week we will be learning about Pentecost and exploring the Holy Trinity. The students will use images to represent the Trinity and its meaning.

English Focus

We will continue to read 'Uncle Xbox' and to write factual recounts that help us to understand the Aboriginal perspective and one of their heroes - Pemulwuy.

Mathematics Focus

Students will work on identifying the line of symmetry in shapes, creating and completing symmetrical shapes and patterns on both grid and dot paper. We will also learn to identify rotational symmetry in shapes.

Integrated Studies

Students will explore political issues within our community.

Social/ Emotional Learning & RRRR

Students will continue the next topic of Positive Coping with a focus on ‘Taming Angry Feelings'. Students will learn to describe the sorts of things that people can get angry about, how to calm down and stay in control when they feel angry, and identify the self-calming strategies that would work well for them.

Auslan Focus

Students will use pointing and signing to make a request. We will ask such questions as: 'Can I have a pencil? Can I eat? Can you help me please?'

Important Reminders

Every morning the students complete a 'Check in'. This is generally done between 8:45 and 8:55am.

Thanks for providing your child with fruit or vegetables for their fruit break. We all get a little peckish mid morning so it helps with our learning.

Please ensure that your child has a bottle of water each day. They are able to refill it when needed.

As the weather is getting colder, bringing a jacket to school to help keep warm when we are outside is recommended. Please put names on all clothing items so they can be returned if they become lost.

Please continue to listen to your child read as this helps to build their fluency and accuracy skills.
