Year Three

Spotlight on Learning

Ephesus Community

Dear Families,

Winter has set in this week with a noticeable change in the weather. Please ensure that your child comes to school with a jumper/jacket that they can wear outside . It would be beneficial to have their belongings clearly labelled to ensure they get returned to their rightful owner.

We have commenced our mid-year assessments, and it has been wonderful to see the growth in students' knowledge and understanding. The effort they have put into their learning is showing, and we are proud of the progress they’ve made. We encourage you to continue reading with your child at home, as this supports the development of their fluency and accuracy.

The Ephesus Team

This week in our learning...

Religious Education

We were learning that in the Church every person has an important role, and identifying different parts that make up the Church. We also reflected on our own role within the Church, how we bring hope to others, and how our actions can support and strengthen the whole community.

Maths

We extended our understanding of length and measuring objects, as we practise estimating lengths, measuring accurately using the correct tools, writing measurements with the right unit symbols, and comparing lengths. We also explain our choices and thinking to a partner to build understanding.

English

Continuing our focus on Reconciliation Week we have started reading a new book- Finding our Heart by Thomas Mayo is a powerful picture book that explains the significance of the Uluru Statement from the Heart and encourages young Australians to reflect on fairness, justice, and unity. This week in writing we continued to write detailed summary sentences of the main ideas of a text and continued to work on our skills to build more complex sentences.

Integrated Studies

We are discovering the significance of International Women’s Day and exploring the symbols and traditions of Hanukkah, a Jewish festival. Our focus is on making connections between the Jewish and Christian faiths, as well as other global religious and non-religious celebrations and commemorations

Social/Emotional Learning & RRRR

We have been exploring what it means to feel stressed and how our bodies respond to these feelings. Students have been learning and applying strategies to help them feel calm and regulated. We've been practising a range of these calming techniques after recess and lunch to support a smooth transition back into learning.

AUSLAN

We have been practising signing different verbs in different places in our signing space. Everyone has their own signing space. This space goes from your hips to the top of your head. It is the space that you can comfortably move your arms around in. The space in front of you refers to here while the space away from you refers to there.
