We will be engaging in and celebrating Pentecost through wearing cultural dress! On Tuesday the 10th of June you are invited to come to school wearing your cultural dress.
Next week, Week 8 of Term 2, we will be learning and engaging in the following:
Religious Education Focus
This week, we are beginning our learning about Pentecost. Students are exploring the story of Pentecost from the Bible and reflecting on how the experiences of the people in the story can relate to their own lives. In particular, they are making connections between the diverse cultural backgrounds present in the Pentecost story and their own cultural experiences, helping them understand the importance of inclusion, communication, and community in both faith and everyday life.
Natasha and her father's memorial service will be held at St Kevin's Catholic Parish Church, Hampton Park on Friday 13th June at 6pm. All are welcome to attend. We continue to hold the Santiago family in our hearts, thoughts and prayers.
English Focus
We will revise our Stage 3 sounds. We will be building words using these sounds, such as quit, quiz, yep, zip, zap and zen. We will continue to read words with Stage 1, Stage 2 and Stage 3 sounds. Please check the reading pouch for the sound sheet every Monday.
Mathematics Focus
This week, we will continue to practise partitioning numbers to 10 using a variety of strategies. Students will explore how numbers can be broken into parts in different ways, helping to deepen their understanding of number relationships. Through hands-on activities and visual models, they will build their number knowledge and develop confidence in recognising the many ways a number can be made.
Social and Emotional Learning
This week, students are learning that stress is a normal feeling and that there are ways we can manage it. They are exploring how to recognise signs of stress in their bodies—such as a fast heartbeat, tense muscles, or feeling fidgety—and learning simple strategies to help themselves feel calm. These strategies might include deep breathing, taking a break, or talking to someone they trust.
Auslan Focus
This week in Auslan, students are learning that if they don’t know the sign for an object, they can simply point to it. They are developing an understanding that pointing is a useful strategy when communicating. Throughout the week, students will practise using this strategy within sentences during modelled and scaffolded whole-class discussions, helping them build confidence and fluency in their signing.
