Spotlight on Learning
Bethlehem Community
Dear Families,
It has been another engaging and productive week in Year 6, filled with meaningful learning across all areas of the curriculum. As we move deeper into Term 2, the students have continued to demonstrate great focus, curiosity, and growth in their learning.
Congratulations to this week's award winners! Keep up the amazing work!
Religious Education Focus:
Our learning in Religious Education focused on the Sacrament of Confirmation. Students explored the symbols, words, and rituals used in both sacramental and non-sacramental celebrations. They made connections between Confirmation and Baptism and examined the Scriptures of the Mass, with a special focus on Saint Barnabas as a model of the confirmed.
English Focus:
Reading:
This week, we concluded our class novel Us Mob Walawurru. Students explored the powerful stories of Neena and Ruby and reflected on the importance of culture, identity, and connection to Country. Alongside this, students continued to practise their reading fluency and deepen their comprehension by summarising key details from a variety of texts.
Writing:
In Writing, students completed their assessment on the Federation of Australia. They demonstrated their ability to write a factual recount, using the correct structure and key features of informative writing. Students also continued to refine their sentence-level writing, using because, but, and so to create more complex and meaningful paragraphs.
Mathematics Focus:
In Mathematics, students learnt to identify and name probabilities on numerical scales. They applied this knowledge through practical tasks and problem-solving scenarios to build their understanding of chance and likelihood.
Integrated Studies Focus
Our focus in Integrated Studies has been on migration to Australia. Students explored key questions such as Who were the people who came to Australia? and Why did they come? Through stories and historical examples, students gained insight into the diverse backgrounds of migrants and the valuable contributions they have made to shaping modern Australian society.
Social & Emotional Learning Focus
This week in SEL, students have been learning strategies to help manage intense emotions in healthy and constructive ways. They explored how recognising their feelings and using tools like deep breathing, taking a break, or talking to a trusted adult can support their emotional wellbeing.
We also introduced the power of positive self-talk, encouraging students to reframe negative thoughts and remind themselves of their strengths. They are learning how the way we talk to ourselves can influence both how we feel and how we act.
Auslan Learning Focus
This week in Auslan, students explored how sign languages use pointing to represent both pronouns (like I, you, he/she) and prepositions (like in, on, under). They practised using pointing in everyday phrases and classroom questions such as:
Upcoming Event
We warmly invite all families to our upcoming Year 6 Class Mass next Wednesday from 9:30–10:30am. This will be a wonderful opportunity for our students to come together in prayer and reflection, celebrating their learning in Religious Education.
Thank you for your ongoing support.
Kind regards,
The Year 6 Team
