Year Five

Spotlight on Learning

Bethany Community

Dear Bethany Families,

It's hard to believe we've hit the first week of winter and are at the end of Week 7 already! Term 2 is flying by, and our Year 5 students continue to impress us with their focus, curiosity, and enthusiasm for learning. With so much great learning happening, we're excited to see what the rest of the term brings!

Next Week we are learning about...

Religious Education Focus:

Next week we will be learning about Pentecost and exploring the fruits of the spirit and how these can be animated in people’s lives.

English Focus

We will begin our new class text, The Rabbits by John Marsden, illustrated by Shaun Tan. This allegorical picture book explores the colonization of Australia through the symbolic arrival of rabbits in a new land. Students will start crafting their own 'Meeting Narratives,' focusing on character development by creating a character description based on an image.

Mathematics Focus

Next week we will continue to explore Probability. Students will be learning to identify and modify fair and unfair chance experiments and have the opportunity to create and test  their own fair chance experiment.

Auslan Focus

Next week in Auslan students will be revising the signs from the past few units and completing an end of unit assessment to show off the skills they have learnt.

Social/ Emotional Learning Focus:

Students will explore how different levels of stress impact their emotions and performance. They'll learn that a moderate amount of stress can boost energy and focus, while too little or too much can lead to boredom or overwhelm. Through SEL activities, students will discover how stepping outside their comfort zones can promote personal growth and resilience. They will also learn practical strategies to manage stress
