Why Pentecost & Multicultural Day?

The story of Pentecost comes from the earliest days of the Church in Jerusalem. It is the story of a scared and bewildered group of people who were Jesus' closest friends and family. They were inspired by the Holy Spirit to venture out, overcome their fears and speak to everyone about what Jesus had taught them...that God loves them and wants them to connect with that love! They were so inspired by the Holy Spirit that they were able to overcome the boundaries of language.

There were many visiting multicultural groups in Jerusalem at the time. They were taking part in the Jewish festival of Shavuot (Jewish Pentecost). Many of these vistors spoke different languages. When these visitors to Jerusalem heard Jesus' apostles speak in their language they were naturally awed and interested in what they had to say. This is how the church spread so rapidly. Language barriers were no match. This is why we celebrate the many cultures that we have in our school at the time of Pentecost!
