Grade 6

Last week, our Grade 6 students launched into an exciting new project titled Inspiring Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders. This inquiry is driven by our big question for the term: How can Indigenous history inspire reconciliation today?
To begin the project, students selected a theme of personal interest, such as fashion, sport, politics, and more, and explored the contributions of significant Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander individuals in that area.
They then chose one inspirational figure to focus on. During reading sessions, students independently researched and gathered information about their chosen person.
In writing, they used their research to craft a biography that celebrates and shares the life and achievements of their Inspirational Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander figure.
At the conclusion of this unit, students will share their findings with their peers, engaging in meaningful discussions about how their chosen figures have contributed to inspiring reconciliation in Australia today.
