Visual Arts

It’s action stations in the Visual Arts room as we dive into the creative chaos of Term 2!
All students are busily completing their incredible artworks in preparation for our Winter Solstice Art Show in Week 9 – Friday 20th June.
Foundation/Year 1 Our youngest artists have been exploring the colourful world of Henri Matisse, creating stunning mixed-media pieces. They began with painted backgrounds, then layered their work with cut paper shapes and drawn faces for a multi-layered effect. Currently, they are experimenting with paint scraping tools to create beautiful textures and colour blends using vibrant paint dots.
Year 2/3 Inspired by Matisse and the concept of negative space, these students painted bold, multi-coloured backdrops and then added cut-out black paper shapes of bugs and creatures to create striking visual contrasts. Next up: group-made papier-mâché dinosaur eggs – always a student favourite!
Year 3/4 Students have been inspired by the vibrant work of Carolyn Gavin, a contemporary artist based in Toronto, Canada. Using bold patterns and layered colour, students created eye-catching artworks, including multi-layered snake paintings that reflect Gavin’s joyful style.
Year 5/6 Our senior students are collaborating on a whole-cohort mobile installation inspired by Carolyn Gavin’s artwork. They are painting layered animal designs, which will be cut out and hung to create a colourful, dynamic display in the Visual Arts space and for the upcoming art show.
