Working Bee

Thank you to everyone who came along and contributed to our recent Working Bee. It was great to see some new faces and a number of students getting involved.

A lot was achieved in the afternoon – garden bed edging was installed, cobwebs were removed, and the grounds had a general tidy-up. These efforts have created some well-prepared spaces, especially for the new trees we’ve begun planting, with more greenery to be added over the coming weeks.

We appreciate the time and effort from all who helped out.

Rubbish-Free Lunches – Launching This Week

Our School Captains have been working thoughtfully behind the scenes on a new initiative to help reduce the amount of rubbish used and left around our school. After weeks of discussion, problem-solving, and planning, they are ready to launch their first project this Friday at assembly.

I’ve been really impressed by their leadership and the way they’ve tackled this issue with care and creativity. Now, we’re inviting our school community to support their efforts.

One of the simplest and most effective ways to get involved is by sending a rubbish-free lunch to school. While it’s not always possible to eliminate all packaging, we encourage families to make small changes where they can. Over time, these small actions add up.

Here are a few suggestions to help create a rubbish-free lunchbox:

  • Use reusable containers instead of single-use plastic wrappers or zip-lock bags.
  • Remove the rubbish from packaged food before sending it to school.
  • Pack fresh fruit and vegetables without packaging.
  • Choose items in bulk (e.g. yoghurt or snacks) and portion them into smaller containers.
  • Invest in a reusable drink bottle rather than disposable juice boxes or pouches.

Making this shift not only keeps our school cleaner, but also helps to reduce landfill waste and the impact of plastic pollution on our environment and local wildlife. Birds and other animals often mistake small bits of plastic for food, which can cause serious harm.

We’re looking forward to seeing how this project develops over the term, and we thank all families in advance for supporting this student-led initiative.

Car Park Safety – A Shared Responsibility

We are reminding all members of our school community, students and adults alike, that walking through the car park is not permitted at any time. This is a crucial safety issue. A few weeks ago, we had a very near miss, and we want to avoid any future incidents.

To support this, I have visited every classroom to speak with students about the importance of using the school gates. All students understand that the car park is out of bounds, even when accompanied by an adult.

In fact, we’ve encouraged our students to help us with this message. So, if your child reminds you not to walk through the car park - they’re absolutely right. Please follow their lead and help us reinforce this important rule.

Let’s keep everyone safe.

Open Morning

Thank you to all the families who joined us for our Open Morning (and our Muffins for Mums). It was a pleasure to welcome you onsite and to see so many of you engaging with your children in their learning environment.

We hope you enjoyed the opportunity to spend time in the classrooms, speak with staff, and share in the daily life of the school. Your involvement and interest in your child’s learning makes a real difference. The students were buzzing after being able to share their classrooms with you.

We appreciate your support and look forward to more opportunities to connect throughout the year.

Assembly Location

After a great run of fine weather for our outdoor assemblies, it looks like the forecast is finally bringing that streak to an end.

As a result, this week’s assembly is very likely to be held indoors, in our Specialist Hub (adjacent to the Art Room). This will be our first indoor assembly of the year, and we look forward to gathering together in this space if the weather doesn't cooperate.

I hope to see and have a chat with some of you at the Trivia Night this week.

Warmly,

Tim Mulhall
