The Humanities

The Bible makes clear that God works out His purpose for humankind through History, and that the process of change in human society over time is intentional and is part of God’s will and purpose for His people. An understanding of God’s overall plan for salvation is the framework within which the study of specific periods of History is undertaken. Furthermore, Christians are encouraged to be good stewards of their resources in everyday life. The Commerce course aims to help students reflect on their own responsibilities as a consumer and consider what it means to take a Christian ‘world view’ in relation to business and economics in the global economy.

In Year 9, History and Geography are taught within the Humanities subject and further consolidate and build upon the skills developed in Years 7 and 8. Civics and Citizenship, and Economics and Business also fit within the Humanities domain and are studied throughout the year. In History, we investigate the causes and key events of the Industrial Revolution, and the significant effect it has had on modern life. We also study World War One, with an emphasis on the effect on Australian people and communities. In Geography, we study the topic of food security, and investigate the challenges to feed our current and projected Australian population. Within Geography, we also study the topic of interconnection, with emphasis on the way people and places are connected through trade, tourism and technology.
