Explore the Learning in Prep

English

The Preps will continue their Core Knowledge unit, ‘Kings and Queens.’ Students will explore stories such as 'King Midas' and 'The Princess and the Pea' and rhymes such as 'Old King Cole' and 'Sing a Song of Sixpence.' The students will be explicitly taught rhyme, vocabulary, syntax and grammar through these texts. They will practice expanding sentences by including an adjective.

The students will also be focusing on the new sounds ‘x’, and ‘qu’ through explicit phonics, handwriting and reading fluency instruction.

Mathematics

Students will consolidate their knowledge of using bundling sticks by learning to count by 10s with bundling sticks. They will continue to practice ‘count on’ in addition.
