Year Four

Year Four Inquiry into the Impact of Exploration on Indigenous Culture
This term, our Year Four students have been inquiring into the central idea: Exploration has impacted Indigenous culture as part of our Where We Are in Place and Time unit of inquiry.
Students have inquired into both historical and contemporary perspectives of colonisation in Australia. To demonstrate their growing understanding of historical facts and research skills, students planned and wrote a factual recount with the theme: What has Australia done to amend the impact of colonisation?
Students planned to include five paragraphs covering:
An introduction that explained the concept of reconciliation in Australia
Body paragraphs about Mabo Day, National Sorry Day, and the change to the national anthem
A concluding paragraph that reflected on the ongoing importance of recognising and responding to the effects of colonisation
This writing piece encouraged students to write with purpose, use formal language features, and apply their knowledge in a meaningful context. We are so proud of the respectful, thoughtful, and informative writing they produced. Their work shows a growing awareness of Australia’s history and our shared responsibility to walk together toward reconciliation. Below is a sample of students' single paragraphs and completed pieces.
