Performing Arts

The students participating in the State School Spectacular had their final rehearsal at Oakleigh South Primary School. Herlina and I were very proud of them; they were excellent learners and dancers.

We were also very impressed with their behaviour on the bus and so were the other passengers. Well done team VSSS.

Our next rehearsal will take place in August in Pakenham, where we will gather with many other schools.

Textiles in Visual Arts

This term in Visual Arts, students from Years 1 to 6 have been exploring the world of textiles through a variety of hands-on projects.

Students in Years 1 and 2 began by learning about the history of weaving and how it is used in different cultures around the world. They then applied their new knowledge to create colourful paper weavings, which became the cosy sweaters for their adorable llama illustrations.

In Years 3 and 4, students took inspiration from abstract artist Wassily Kandinsky, focusing on his use of complementary colours. They designed and created vibrant circle looms and learnt the technique of weaving with yarn, developing their fine motor skills and artistic expression.

Our senior students in Years 5 and 6 designed, decorated, and sewed their own felt softies. Along the way, they developed a range of sewing skills including threading a needle, running stitch, cross stitch, and even the intricate French knot. It was fantastic to see their imaginative designs come to life!

Well done to all our young artists on their wonderful textile creations!
