Learning always looks a little bit different in VM & VPC … BUT WHAT'S WHAT WE LOVE ABOUT IT!
Check out all the applied learning experiences our Year 11 and 12 students have been involved in lately.
Road Safety Excursions
Year 12 - Road to Zero Experience - Melbourne Museum
The Excursion we did to the museum to see Road to Zero was good because I like travelling by bus to the city of Melbourne and I tried the virtual reality experiences.
Thank you. - Shahd Ali Hayani
“It was fun and cool” - Baxter Clifford Jeisman
Year 11 - You Just Never Know Experience - Geelong Arts Centre
SWL / SBAT / Traineeships
John - Plumbing
John has only just recently started his work placement, and after his first day on the tools we were so proud to receive the following feedback about his work ethic:
Johnny is very attentive and listens to instruction well. Johnny completed the following task with no issues, a garden tap, basin, bracket shower, bath outlet and mixer plate and handles. He is a very good worker and will be an asset to the company, if given the opportunity for an apprenticeship.
Kobe - Sport & Recreation
Kobe is working with the NBC SEED participants, gaining valuable work experience in running sport based programs, creating real-world opportunities that build confidence and skills for both himself and the junior students.
Tijiana & Kayleigh - SBAT - Early Childhood Education
Thank you to Geelong World of Learning who are currently supporting two of our YR11 VM Students in SBATs.

School Yard Beans Brewing Success Every Monday Morning
Each Monday morning, the aroma of freshly ground coffee and baked delights fills the air thanks to our very own School Yard Beans crew. This passionate team of students has been working hard to hone their barista skills, mastering everything from grinding beans to frothing milk to creating the perfect cup of coffee.
But it’s not just about the coffee – the team has also been busy in the kitchen, experimenting with recipes and whipping up delicious treats that have quickly become favourites among staff and students. From muffins and milkshakes.
This hands-on initiative is giving students real-world experience in customer service, food preparation, teamwork, and time management – all while building confidence and having a lot of fun along the way.
Come down and support the School Yard Beans crew next Monday morning – try a treat, and see what these future hospitality stars are brewing up next!
Bike Shop Back in Action
Under the guidance of Mr. Reily, students in the school bike shop are hard at work repairing old bikes and giving them a second life. They're learning valuable mechanical skills while promoting sustainability by getting the bikes ready for resale. Keep an eye out for the upcoming bike sale – quality, recycled bikes restored by our own students!
Industry Fridays - Working in a team work and preparing for work.
Paving the Way in the School Garden
Students have been working hard in the garden alongside Ms. Cochrane, shifting newly acquired pavers to create a functional and inviting footpath. While getting their hands dirty, they’re also learning valuable gardening and landscaping skills – from soil prep to plant care. Great teamwork and a great addition to our outdoor space!
LITERACY
Honouring ANZAC Through Literacy
In Literacy, students explored the history and significance of ANZAC Day, investigating the stories behind the soldiers and the legacy they left behind. They reflected on their learning through written pieces and contributed to a thoughtful ANZAC Day display, shown above, to honour and remember those who served.
NUMERACY
VPC12 Students Go the Distance at Athletics Day
Athletics Day was full of energy and school spirit – made even better by the VPC12 students who ran an exciting Amazing Race event. Their creative course and enthusiastic involvement brought an extra layer of fun to the day and was a perfect complement to the sporting action.

Control Your Scroll
Our year 12 students participated in a creating digital balance workshop that is designed for secondary students. This program focused on preparing students to be digitally equipped for senior year learning and beyond by discussing the impact of devices on certain aspects of their wellbeing. During this session, students learned practical strategies and form healthier habits as they focus on areas such as mental health, relationships, focus, and sleep. Through engaging in a series of hands-on activities, students learned to discern between healthy and unhealthy digital practices, preparing them to live in a digitally balanced world.
You Just Never Know Road Safety Excursion
Our year 11 students participated in a road safety program at GPAC in Geelong which targets teenagers who will be attempting their driver's licence in the near future. It raised awareness and provided education around the dangers of irresponsible driving, in particular drink and drug driving, using mobile phones while driving and speeding. Introduced by Channel 9 presenter Peter Hitchener, the students heard from several speakers live on stage who have been affected by road trauma. This includes members of Ambulance Victoria, the Department of Justice, Victoria Police and a road accident survivor. Students particularly enjoyed getting to jump inside of police cars and ambulances seeing what all the different buttons and switches do.
Curriculum Spotlight VCE English
On Wednesday the 7th of May our year 12 students all sat their English examinable assessment in the library at 3:20pm, replicating exam conditions. We realise that this is outside of our students usual class times, however, we believe that in making all students sit the same assessment, at the same time, creates an equal opportunity for all students to be able to access and interact with the particulars of the course. As it currently stands, a large number of our students already use the time to participate in our Homework Club program where they complete study and receive additional support from specialised staff. Additionally, in having students complete the assessment during this time, this also affords our students valuable experience in performing under strenuous exam conditions of which they will be subjected to at the end of the year whilst also minimising classroom disruptions.
Curriculum Spotlight VCE Drama
On Thursday the 8th of May our VCE drama class performed their ensemble performances in the Goldsworthy Theatre. One group chose ‘Pandora’s Box’ for their stimulus and the other ‘Jack the Ripper’. The performances are SACs for Outcome 1 of Units 1 & 3. The students were assessed on the day by Nicholas Mawson and two guest moderators – Kelly Clifford from Christian College and Laura Frew from Northern Bay College (Hendy & Peacock campuses).
VCE student performers: Brock Barron, Charlie Brooks-Bloomfield, Bailey Strahan, Macca Williams, Al Betros, Zanda Day, Reginald Roylance & Lucky Rumanzi
Homework Club
Homework club is being run on Mondays, Tuesdays & Thursdays between 3:10 & 4:30. This space has been populated lately with students working together on maths problems and writing extra paragraphs for English in preparation for their assessments. This space has continued to be populated with VCE students not only continuing their positive study habits but also working collaboratively to push each other with the assistance of all VCE teaching staff.
