Northern Bay College proudly offer Year 7&8 scholarships within the four pillars of: Academic, Science and Technologies, Sport, Physical Education and Health, and The Arts.
I am pleased to announce the key dates in the process for 2025 Year 6 students to apply for an NBC Year 7&8 Scholarship.
August 8: 2026 Yr 7 scholarship applications will open. Each Year 6 student and their parents will receive information and links to the application forms through email. In the following week, students will engage in three-way learning conversations which will help students to think about their strengths to include in their application. During that week Ken Massari will attend each P-8 campus to assist students with questions about their applications.
August 22: Applications close. Our Selection Panels will then shortlist the applications to identify the students that will go to the interview stage.
September 5: Students selected to be interviewed will be notified. Interviews will be conducted over the final two weeks of Term 3.
October 10: Final recommendations for the successful 2026-27 Year 7&8 Scholarship students will be made.
October 28: A presentation ceremony will be held.
Congratulations to our NBC students who were awarded Western Chances scholarships, bringing the total number of supported students to 30 (21 still on NBC campuses).
This program provides life-changing opportunities, offering both material support and valuable networking connections.
A special mention to Farzana, who was formally recognised at the Avalon Airshow for receiving a scholarship to Space Camp—just incredible!!
We are so proud of all our students and grateful for the support of Western Chances in their success.
On the 14th-16th of May, I accompanied Son Lar & Mehdi Mohammad to the ABCN Scholarship Accelerate program in Sydney. These students not only represented our school with pride & enthusiasm but stepped up to every opportunity and connection presented to them. Being awarded a $7000 scholarship and a having a mentor for the next three years was just the tip of the iceberg. The students spent time with many different leaders from across our country, from student leaders to federal MP’s & CEO’s of companies such as Optus, Celvin Klein & Tommy Hilfiger. Medhi Mohammad Aref and Son Lar Ler Wah share their experiences below.

The ABCN program has truly been an amazing experience. I’m so excited to see what I’ll be able to achieve next with their support. One of the highlights for me was the Sydney summit with our mentors, it was absolutely an incredible experience. I really appreciate my mentor being there with me, Martin. He’s honestly the best! He always encourages me to be my best self, and whenever I’m facing a challenge or need help, he’s there for me to lend me a hand. I hope I’m able to give something back to him too, even in small ways. I absolutely loved visiting Sydney and meeting the other scholars from across Australia. The people who I extremely appreciate from the scholars are Son Lar and Darin. They were so kind and genuine and I really appreciate that I got to know them. Everyone I met from the ABCN program was amazing, with their own unique talents and gifts. I enjoyed networking with them, because they really inspired me and helped me grow. I truly hope I stay in touch with them and especially with my mentor Martin, even after the scholarship ends. I wouldn’t trade this experience or the people I’ve met through this program for anything in the world.

I had the amazing opportunity to travel to Sydney for the ABCN Summit. It was an inspiring experience where I got to meet students from all around Australia, each with their own unique stories and ambitions. Throughout the summit, we took part in workshops, shared our goals, and had open conversations about our plans during school and beyond. One of the highlights of the trip was spending time with my mentor, Amy, who supported and encouraged me throughout the summit. She helped me reflect on my goals and guided me as I spoke about my plans for during and after schooling. It was motivating to be surrounded by people who were just as focused on building a strong future. The trip not only helped me grow personally, but also gave me the confidence to keep pushing towards my dreams.
