Friend Drama & Group Chats: Surviving the Social Minefield
High school friendships can be intense—and when group chats, streaks and social media are thrown in, things can escalate quickly. Teens often find themselves caught in drama they didn’t ask for, feeling pressured to respond instantly, keep up appearances, or navigate exclusion and online conflict—all while trying to manage school and family life. It’s no wonder that social exhaustion is common.
Parents can help by gently opening conversations about online dynamics. Ask how they feel after being online, not just what they’re doing. Encourage regular screen breaks, reassure them that it's okay to leave toxic group chats, and model healthy boundaries. Sometimes just knowing home is a drama-free zone can be the reset they need.
“Just because it’s in your phone, doesn’t mean it has to be in your head all day.”
