Principal's Message
Term 3, Week 8
Hi Everyone,
My goodness there has been so much illness around! It was disappointing that our P&C meeting couldn’t go ahead but totally understandable with so many people falling ill. Hopefully as we head to warmer weather the flu season will abate.
There was no illness in sight (though some may have gotten injured along the way!) when it came to the Prep Potato Olympics! What a truly wonderful event it was; everybody loved the sporting spuds doing their best across the different sporting disciplines! Congratulations and thank you to the Prep Team for setting up for such an elite sporting competition! :)
Thank you to Mrs Tara Griffin who hosted 2026 Prep Open Day here on Saturday. There has been a lot of interest from families wanting to enrol at Ironside, which is a great endorsement and nod to our fantastic teaching staff and school in general. If you know of anyone wanting to enrol their child at our school in 2026, they need to contact us as soon as possible.
We have had both an evacuation and lockdown drill this term, without the children knowing and they have done an excellent job of sensibly following staff’s instructions. Feel free to reassure your children that it is very rare to ever need to evacuate for a real fire or lock down but it is good to be prepared.
Congratulations to our Year 4-6 Merit certificate recipients, we are very proud of you!
I greatly anticipated the Year 1 Choir’s performance at assembly last week and it was magnificent! Thank you to them and Mrs Huxley!
Congratulations to our wonderful Peer mediators and the teachers who organise and train them - Ms Hannah Ersser, Ms Biller Barker and Mrs Jessica Ballantyne. These children were acknowledged on assembly for all they do to make our school a better place.
Coming up this week:
· Parent & Teacher Progress Meetings - Monday 1st September - Thursday 4th September
· Year 4 excursion - Towards Zero Waste - Tuesday 2nd September
· Interschool Chess Tournament - Wilston State School - Tuesday 2nd September
· Year 3 Street Science Incursion - Thursday 4th September
· NO SCHOOL - Friday 5th September - pupil free day
· Father’s Day - Sunday 7th September
I have no doubt our school will be full of eager parents and caregivers this week, meeting with teachers to hear all about how their children are going. I always loved catching up with families to discuss their child’s progress, it is one of the magical and privileged experiences in teaching; the sharing of the education of a child with their parents. Thank you for taking the time to come in and thank you to our teachers for your daily dedication.
Some of our children were involved in the Brisbane Maths Tournament today and I am awaiting to hear how they went…….brilliantly no doubt! Thank you to Mr Bryan Chow and Mrs Shelley Lee for organising this great opportunity. All the best to our Ironside State School Chess Teams heading off to an interschool competition tomorrow too. Thank you to Mr Shepherd and Mr Malcolm their coaches.
Lucky Year 3 have their Street Science incursion this week, to enhance their learning this term. Thank you to the Year 3 teaching team for organising this great opportunity.
I am on the University of Queensland Education Advisory Council and had my regular meeting with the group last week. It is wonderful to have this opportunity to meet and discuss the future of education in our state and nation with knowledgeable others.
This Friday, the 5th September, is a pupil-free day, so please do not come to school!
Dad’s, Sunday is your special day, where we celebrate you. Thank you for enriching our lives with who you are and what you bring to us. I hope you have an extra special day on Sunday and get a bit spoilt! Happy Father’s Day!
Have a wonderful week.
Yours in Education,
