Orchestra plays excitingly at Assembly
The Orchestra performed two pieces in assembly on Monday. They opened with Fury by Chris M. Bernotas. The minor key and driving rhythms told the story of the fury of a storm with wind and heavy rain. A section with pizzicato (plucking) from the cellos depicted the rain easing off. A beautiful violin solo played by Sean (6P) was a highlight.
Their second piece was End Pin Rag by Richard Meyer. It featured the cello and bass section of the Orchestra playing the melody a lot of the time. A middle section had some humorous percussion sounds played by Tennyson (5T) including a duck call and a siren whistle.
Corelli Strings, Choir and Orchestra prepare for Night of Music Performance
The annual Night of Music concert hosted by the Heidelberg Orchestras will be on Saturday 6th September at the Performing Arts Centre, Ivanhoe Girls Grammar School. The concert starts at 7pm and tickets (maximum 3 per family) are available from https://www.heidelbergsymphony.com.au/ Adults $28 / Child $14. (Performers don’t need a ticket)
Performers wear white on the top and black on the bottom. Each group has a short soundcheck before the concert which is an important chance to see the stage and test the sound:
When we ask Year 6 students for highlights of their time in the IPS String Program, the Night of Music always comes up. It is a very special evening: very exciting for the students and a wonderful opportunity for the families to be proud of their performers.
Thank you to Oscar (5B) for the poster artwork and Annelies for the poster design.
