We have a terrific team of staff and teachers at Ivanhoe Primary School. Some have been with us for many years while others join us for shorter periods while pursuing further studies. All, contribute meaningfully to our programs and our school culture.
Recently, I caught up with one of our former education support staff, Dorothy, who made a significant impact helping students with their work and ensuring they felt settled and supported in the classroom.
I am pleased to share that Dorothy has moved on to further her studies in education at Melbourne University and will shortly graduate as a Secondary School Art teacher.
Dorothy has been awarded several high distinctions for her work making a movie using Artificial Intelligence (A.I) inspired by a film titled Night at the museum”.
“As night falls, the NGVs artifacts have come alive. Some want to return home, some seek new meaning. Your mission: use your spatial, cultural and artistic thinking to find and understand them”.
Dorothy was happy to let me share her assignment with the students at IPS to demonstrate what is possible with some of these new technologies.
It’s wonderful to see the growth and achievements of our past team members. Their contributions, whether short or long, leave a lasting impact on our school community.
A proud Gamilaraay man, Mitch blends traditional Aboriginal sounds and language with contemporary beats and production. The multi-talented recording artist first stunned the nation when he performed a spine tingling First Nations version of the iconic John Farnham anthem, You're The Voice on the 2019 Finale of Australia’s Got Talent.
Ivanhoe Primary School students and staff were lucky enough to have Mitch all to ourselves this week where he entertained us with song and dance. His powerful performance and deep understanding of first nations people engaged us all in a truly remarkable performance. The Year 5s and 6's participated in a yarning session that aimed to tackle important issues such as empowering youth, supporting First Nations culture and exploring diversity.

We Need Your Help for Two Special Father’s Day Events!
We’re excited to be celebrating Father’s Day with two wonderful events, and we’re calling on our amazing community to help make them a success.
1. Father’s Day Stall – Wednesday, 3rd September (during school hours)This is a lovely opportunity for children to purchase a gift for a special person in their lives. Volunteers are needed to help run the stall and assist the children with their purchases.
2. Father’s Day Breakfast – Thursday, 4th of September
We’ll also be hosting a Father’s Day breakfast, and we’ll need plenty of hands to help cook, serve, and set up. The dads set a high bar for the Mother’s Day breakfast—let’s make this one just as special!
If you’re available to help with either event, please get in touch with the relevant contact listed in the posters below.
Mr Pearce and Emily Fraser have begun the process of coordinating Grade 6 clothing for 2026. Grade 5 families have already had the chance to view design options, and the hoodie and polo pictured will be available for purchase later in the year from Noone, our school supplier in East Ivanhoe. In the coming weeks, students will be able to try on sample items to find their best fit. After the fitting session, Grade 5 families will be able to place their orders for Grade 6 clothing through the Noone website.

Over the past two weeks our students have enjoyed a number of wonderful and exciting events! Book Week was a highlight, with the much-loved annual costume parade and Monday’s Book Week performance – both fantastic celebrations of the power of reading.
Our school is conducting the annualParent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey and is seeking your feedback. The survey, offered by the Department of Education, is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behaviour, and student engagement.
Please check your email to see if you were a member of the random sample of families that was sent an invitation to complete the survey.
The Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey will remain open online until Friday 19 September 2025.
Your opinions are important to us and will contribute to identifying areas for improvement and professional development needs in the school, to target school planning and improvement strategies.
The department will use the results from the survey for research purposes and to improve outcomes for students. The survey is being conducted online and only takes 20 minutes to complete. If you require assistance in completing the survey, please reach out to your child’s teacher, or the school if you require assistance in another language.
I am putting out this reminder as only 7% of responses have been received.
Our Fair Committee is feverishly working behind the scenes and in cahoots with our senior music teacher Mr O'Brien has secured performances from both Kew HS and Northcote HS, along with our own IPS talent on the day.
I was speaking with the Principal of THS Lars Andersson who tells we he produces a regular podcast about his school and had just recently created an episode about the music program at Thornbury High School. I really enjoyed listening to Sean, the teacher and one of their senior students on the program. Apparently, every Year 7 and 8 student learns an instrument. Here is the link to the podcast.
