Kitchen Garden Update

This week, our Year 1/2 students put on their aprons and got busy in the kitchen. They had a fantastic time learning to cook delicious fried rice and zesty lemon biscuits. Using woks and spatulas, the students carefully tossed the fried rice, learning how to cook safely with heat. They also practised grating lemons to add zest to their biscuits and learnt the technique of hand beating the sugar and butter. This was a great way to develop fine- motor skills and explore different cooking techniques.

Last week, we also began experimenting with the science of growing our own mushrooms. These amazing, often underrated fungi have given us a new understanding and appreciation of their complex structure and nutritional value. We hope to see our mushrooms start popping up in our mushroom kit box soon, so we can feature them as the hero ingredient in our next recipes. Fingers crossed!

Thank you to our volunteers who joined us for the fun and shared in the cooking experience. Next week, the Year 1/2 students will begin planting tomato seeds in preparation for some of our summer produce. We are hoping to grow an abundance of tomatoes so that together we can produce our very own Chatham passata.
