Principal's Report

Jonathan Rowe

Dear Parents and Carers

It has been an exciting start to the term, and I wish to acknowledge the many ways our students have contributed across the College.  From shining in theatre, tackling new learning challenges, to giving their all in sport and serving the community, our young people have embraced every opportunity.

These opportunities are only possible through the dedication of our staff and the generosity of our wider community.  We are grateful for teachers and support staff who give so much of their time and energy assisting with coaching, umpiring, and scoring and backstage hands who work quietly behind the scenes.  This spirit of generosity and collaboration is what makes Monivae such a special place, ensuring our young people have every chance to grow, learn, and succeed.

Shining brightly last week were the cast and crew of our 2025 School Production, Bait and Tackle.  Our students poured their talent, energy, and joy into every rehearsal and performance, both on stage and behind the scenes, and their efforts lit up the hearts of all who attended.  Along side the performers, many students contributed through backstage support.  I particularly want to acknowledge and thank Gustav Pohl, Performing Arts Faculty Leader and Drama teacher, who wrote and directed the play.  I look forward to next year’s Musical!

Fr Stephen Hackett, MSC Provincial Superior, visited Monivae from 17-21th August.  Fr Stephen met with staff, experienced something of the life of the Monivae community, and caught up with colleagues from years past.  I also took him along to the first night of our Drama performance.  We are grateful to Fr Stephen for taking the time out of his very busy schedule to visit our vibrant school community.

As we move closer to the end of term, I would also like to speak directly to our Unit 4 students.  With trial exams approaching, now is the time to build consistent study routines and establish a focused revision plan.  As netball, football and other sporting finals come to a close, I encourage students to reduce employment hours where possible and to shift their attention toward academic preparation.  Balance, self-discipline and support from family and peers will be key in the weeks ahead.

Congratulations to our BAS Netball team – they won 2 of their 4 home and away games and have made it through to a final next week.

Next week I commence enrichment leave from September 4 and return October 9.  I am travelling to Italy, the majority in Rome as a ‘Pilgrim of Hope’ for this Jubilee year.  On my way home I will visit Vietnam and the MSC community in Ho Chi Minh City.  Fiona Mulhall will be acting Principal while I am away.

Kind regards

Mr Jonathan Rowe
