Excursions and
In-School-Activities Wrap up
This term the ASDAN students have been working on getting out and about in the community. We independently caught public transport to the cinema, ordered a hot drink at a local café and had lunch at Cockatoo.
Our independence and work related skills are growing by the day with our weekly Woolworths shopping experience as well as delivering pamphlets for Armstrong Creek Real Estate as part of Year 10 work experience.
Some of our lucky students even went on the adventure of a lifetime last week, carving up the slopes at the Ski Camp at Mount Baw Baw.
Save the Date: October 30 from 3-7pm : Get Ready to Dive In!
Our talented young artists have been working incredibly hard preparing for our upcoming Under the Sea Student Art Show in October (Term 4, Week 4). The creativity and enthusiasm in our art rooms has been absolutely fantastic to witness!
Students across all year levels have been busy bringing the ocean depths to life through their artwork. From colorful coral reefs and mysterious deep-sea creatures to playful dolphins and majestic whales, our school is transforming into an underwater wonderland!
We can't wait to share these incredible creations with our school community. Keep an eye out for more updates as we get closer to our big reveal!
The Visual Arts Team
We’ve had an exciting term in Auslan! Across all year levels, students have been building their communication skills, learning more about Deaf culture, and exploring how Auslan connects with the world around them. Here’s a snapshot of what each year level has been up to:
Prep – Talking About the Weather!
Our Preps have been busy learning Auslan signs related to weather and clothing. From ☀️ sunny days to 🌧️ rainy afternoons, they are learning how to sign what to wear and when. It’s been lots of fun connecting their everyday experiences with Auslan vocabulary.
Years 1 & 2 – Colours, Patterns & Footy Fever
Footy season is here, and our Grade 1 & 2 students have been learning signs for football and other sports uniforms. The focus has been on describing patterns and colours (think stripes, spots, and team colours) and practicing how to exchange information about their favourite teams. Lots of team spirit, Auslan-style!
Years 3 & 4 – From Cities to Natural Disasters
After learning signs for states, cities, and capitals, our Grade 4 students are now moving into the topic of natural disasters. They’ll be building vocabulary and practicing how to describe events in Auslan using expressive facial grammar. We’ll also be learning about how broadcast interpreters work and the vital role they play in making emergency information accessible for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community.
Years 5 & 6 – Learning Strategies & Meeting a Special Guest
Our senior students have been exploring individualised strategies and accessible materials to support learning. The focus has been on tactile learning, consistent routines, and clear communication methods—important skills that build independence and confidence. Excitingly, Grades 5 & 6 will soon welcome a special visitor who is Deafblind. He will be sharing his personal experiences and strategies for communication, an inspiring opportunity for students to learn firsthand about resilience, accessibility, and connection.
Wrapping Up
It’s been a rich term of Auslan learning filled with energy, fun, and meaningful experiences. Thank you for supporting your children as they continue to grow their Auslan skills, live our school values, and build a stronger sense of inclusion and community.
The Auslan Team ✨
During General Studies this term, the Year 4 students have been learning about our Rights and Responsibilities as citizens in a community.
Here are some of our Rights and Responsibilities.
I have the right to be treated fairly - Alex W
I have the responsibility to listen to my teacher - Sirat K
I have the right to medical care - Ethan A
I have the responsibility to keep the environment clean - Armaan D
I have the right to have a say - Spencer P
I have the responsibility to treat others kindly - Tait R
We completed an activity where we sorted statements under the headings of Rights and Responsibilities. Lots of rich discussions took place where we were able to justify our reasons.
