PBIS at Jackson School
The Jack Store
This is Jackson School’s Jack Store. This is where students come to redeem the Jack-Points that they have accumulated over the previous weeks, or in some cases over the term, depending on what purchase each individual student might have their eyes on. The Jack Store is in its second year of operation, and it has been an extremely popular initiative as part of our PBIS Rewards system.
Positive Behaviour Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is the program that we utilise to support and promote Positive Behaviours at school. Every-time a student has been observed or has demonstrated positive behaviours that meet the school’s Behaviour Expectations (Respect, Responsibility and Safety), they are rewarded with Jack-Points. These are recorded via an app which keeps track of how many Jack-Points the student has accumulated over the course of a week, a month or even a whole term.
The Jack Store has a wide variety of items available for purchase with Jack Points, ranging from various snack items, free IPad time and hot chocolate/milk shake vouchers to small toys and even large items such as the Lego kit pictured above, or sporting goods.
Some students like to redeem their points weekly, but quite a few are saving their Jack-Points to purchase the big-ticket items. A valuable financial literacy (saving for something)/resilience (delaying instant gratification) activity in itself. All classes from Prep to Year 12, have an allocated time during the week to visit the store to spend their Jack-Points.
COMMUNITY RESOURCE DIRECTORY
With the school holidays literally just around the corner, this directory may be a useful resource to use if you are wanting your child to get involved in a Community Sporting or Recreational activity. The directory has been compiled over the last 5 years. Most of the contact details and names should be current. If you are connected with a community recreational or Sporting Club already, please share those details with me for publication of subsequent issues of the directory.
