Athletics Carnival: A Run Away Success

Friday saw students in the 456 and 34 Learning Areas head to Willinda Athletics Track in Greensborough for the first Athletic Carnival in many years at Rosanna Primary. Students threw the discuss, leapt over hurdles, balanced eggs on spoon, landed in the long jump pit and much more. For some students in Year 3 and Year 4, this was their first introduction into formal competitive athletics sports. A strong gathering of parents ensured that the day flowed smoothly and full of rich learning. Thanks to all who supported students a wonderful day that reminded us all to stay active!

Students from Prep through to Year 2 will have an opportunity to participate in their own sports carnival towards the end of the year.

Active Travel To School started this week.

Tallies are being marked in classrooms to encourage students to actively travel to school. As this month progresses, we look forward to adding more tickets to show we are travelling actively to school. It has been great to speak with a number of parents who are parking a block or two away from the school and walking the last part of their journey.  A large map in the foyer shows the safe cycling routes and walking routes that students use to get to school. What a great way to support the early healthy habits of an active lifestyle.

Next Tuesday, we look forward to meeting at different points around the neighbourhood and walk together with parents and students. Keep an eye on Compass to join with others on our Walk to School day.

Students Begin NAPLAN

This week, students have started the National Assessment Program. These assessments include mathematics, reading, writing and language conventions. It provides a snapshot of student learning and is used to provide information for parents and schools to sharpen teaching and learning experiences. It was encouraging to see students in both Year 3 and Year 5 settle into the assessments, despite a few nerves. Thanks to parents for ensuring that students have arrived well rested! The assessments should be completed next week.

They will start their morning with a mathematics treasure hunt and follow up with a applied maths session.

Assembly Starts Early tomorrow  @ 2.30pm

We will have lots to celebrate and hear on Friday and will start our assembly earlier at 2.30pm. Students will head quickly to assembly after the lunch break to ensure we have an opportunity celebrate learning throughout the week.

Harmony Day

Friday 21 March

Harmony Day will be celebrated on 21 March in Learning Areas. This unique day is an opportunity to recognise the country's many cultures and Indigenous Australians. It's a day to reaffirm the importance of respect towards all Australians and value the richness of diversity. The day will reinforce messages of inclusion, anti-rascism and anti bullying.

Students and staff are encouraged to wear orange. Some might wear orange socks, others an orange necklace, everyone will join in the celebration of culture on this special day.
