A Spotlight on Learning

A Spotlight on Learning in the MLC on Springvale Campus

This term, the MLC students have been developing their understanding of numbers and their value. We have been exploring different ways to rename numbers, using place value, expanded form and number facts. Through hands-on activities and games, students are becoming more confident in breaking down numbers and understanding how they can be represented in different ways.

In Reading, students are focusing on understanding information that is directly stated in a text. Students have been practising how to summarise what they have read and use text features such as headings, sub-headings, and diagrams to locate specific details. These skills are helping students build a deeper understanding of texts and become more independent readers. Encourage your child to discuss what they have read at home to strengthen their comprehension skills!

Our young writers are diving into persuasive writing! They have been brainstorming arguments on different topics and learning how to plan their writing effectively. By following the structure of a persuasive text and using convincing language, students are developing their ability to express their opinions clearly. We look forward to seeing some fantastic persuasive pieces as they refine their writing skills.

Understanding and managing emotions is an essential part of our learning. Students have been working on recognising which ‘zone’ they are in and articulating their emotions. They are also learning to read body language to identify how others might be feeling. Through class discussions and activities, they are exploring what triggers different emotions and developing strategies to manage their feelings in various situations. Well done to all our students for showing great self-awareness and empathy!

Thank you for your continued support in your child's learning journey. The MLC teachers are excited for the rest of the year with our students and cherish each day as an opportunity to learn and grow together!
