Highlights from Heights Campus

It’s been a busy couple of weeks across the Heights Campus!

Our students enjoyed the "Best Lunchtime Ever" event organised by TheirCare, the company that runs the out-of-school hours care (OSHC) program. Students participated in a variety of engaging activities during lunch and recess, including craft projects, seed planting, squishy ball creations, and interactive games. These activities provided a glimpse into the enjoyable experiences offered by Their Care's before and after school care, as well as their holiday programs. The highlight of the event was an energetic outdoor disco, where students enthusiastically danced whilst enjoying the sunshine.   Please consider signing up your child to attend TheirCare's amazing programs - the holidays are just around the corner.

Last week our Foundation students enjoyed a delightful Family Fun Day! The day commenced with a captivating magic show, leaving students mesmerized by the magician's tricks. Following this, a mobile petting farm provided hands-on experiences with various animals, including goats, rabbits, guinea pigs, ducks, and chickens. Interacting with these animals not only brought joy but also offered educational benefits, fostering empathy and responsibility among the children.

The festivities continued with outdoor games, promoting teamwork and physical activity. Students also participated in musical activities that encouraged creativity and rhythm. The morning concluded with a picnic, where students and their parents or carers gathered to eat their snack, strengthening community bonds. This event provided a wonderful opportunity for families to connect and celebrate the start of the school year together.

On Friday February 28th, students from all year levels at our school enthusiastically participated in Clean Up Australia Day, demonstrating their commitment to environmental stewardship. Accompanied by their teachers, students searched the school grounds, diligently collecting litter to enhance the cleanliness and sustainability of our environment.

Following the cleanup, our dedicated Environmental Leaders gathered all the collected waste, meticulously sorting and weighing each bag. There were approximately 200 pieces of plastic (chip packets etc) and approximately 120 recyclables such as bottles and juice boxes. This data  was then entered into the Clean Up Australia website, contributing to a nationwide citizen science project that tracks rubbish and aids in developing strategies to combat environmental pollution  This hands-on experience not only fostered a sense of responsibility among students but also highlighted the impact of collective action in preserving our planet.  Thank you to Mrs McMahon and Mr Hierk for making the day a success.

Finally, a reminder that every Thursday until the end of term there are free AusKick sessions happening after school on the Springvale Campus. It’s not too late to join in the fun, just look for the sign up posters or speak to your child’s teacher. They could be kicking goals next week!!
