What's happening in Years 7,8 & 9.

Learning Showcase

Last week's Junior Learning Showcase was a fantastic celebration of student learning and achievement in Year 7 and Year 8. It was wonderful to see our students confidently demonstrating their knowledge and skills across a range of subjects.

Families had the opportunity to step inside the classroom and see firsthand the incredible work that takes place each day.

A special thank you to our student guides, who represented the school with pride and enthusiasm as they welcomed visitors and led tours—true ambassadors of our Glenroy values!

It was excellent to see the joy of our staff when watching the students share, and that of the parents who were able to see their child’s growth in real, tangible ways.

Big thanks to Rose and Jen (plus Lidia and Peta) for the event planning, to the domain leaders for working so hard with their teams to collate student work, Sadiq as always for set up and pack down help, and to the Inclusion & Wellbeing staff who made calls home to encourage families to attend.

Congrats to the teachers and ES who assist the students every day in class to get these outcomes.

Year 7 Girls Gym Program

Through the YMCA all Year 7 girls were provided with the opportunity to have full access of the gym facilities at Fawkner Leisure Centre for 5 sessions spread over 5 weeks with no cost. This is the 4th year of funding provided by the YMCA to Glenroy College to promote active behaviours amongst females in Merri-bek.

Each session was run by a professional instructor with students being involved in a variety classes included high intensity interval training (HIIT), water aerobics, strength training and boxercise.

All students had an amazing time over the 5 weeks, with many students asking questions on how they can join a gym.

Improved Learning Behaviours

TimeZone excursion

On Thursday the 25th of May, 100 students from Years 7-12 were invited to attend an Improved Learning Behaviours and Gold Card excursion to Timezone (Broadmeadows).

The students invited demonstrated the most improvement in the college learning behaviours of participating in classroom activities, focus on learning and completing set tasks in all classes.

Students had 90 minutes access to the games at TimeZone, with basketball, racing and air hockey games providing lots of enjoyment and competition. The next major whole school rewards excursion will be a whole day trip to the snow in Term 3. Keep trying your best and living the college values for a chance to be invited.
