Girls 3X Cup Basketball Tournament

Congratulations to four of our students who entered a tournament last term – Betty T, Piper S, Amelia Wand Amelia Jon their success. 

 

After winning 3 out of their 4 Pool B games, they progressed through to finals. They then won their quarter and semi-final, which progressed them into the Grand Final. They couldn't quite get over the line in this game but had a great time trying.

There is now a chance that they may progress through to the next round depending on where other teams place.

Prep Physical Education 

Transdisciplinary Theme:

How We Express Ourselves 

 

Central Idea: 

How our bodies move to express our feelings. 

 

What We’re Learning: 

This term in Physical Education, Prep students will explore how movement can be used to express feelings, ideas, and creativity in a fun and supportive environment. 

 

  • Students will explore movement at different levels (high, medium, low) and respond to a variety of music tempos. 

  • They will experience and demonstrate a range of balances and body shapes, both individually and in groups, using equipment and their own bodies. 

  • Students will be introduced to simple rolling techniques as part of their gymnastics learning. 

  • They will develop Fundamental Motor Skills, including running, jumping, dodging, tracking objects, and catching. 

     

Why It Matters:

These experiences help students build confidence, coordination, and body awareness while encouraging them to express themselves creatively. Students also develop important social and emotional skills as they move, play, and learn together.

Year 1 Physical Education 

Transdisciplinary Theme:

Where We Are in Place and Time 

 

Central Idea: 

A journey in movement can produce healthy bodies and minds. 

 

What We’re Learning: 

This term in Physical Education, Year 1 students will explore how movement helps develop both their bodies and minds. Through structured activities, they will build confidence, coordination, and awareness of how their bodies move. 

 

  • Gymnastics: Students will explore movement through balance, strength, rotation, and flight. They will create and perform simple movement combinations both on the floor and using equipment, with a focus on safe landings and organised sequences that connect mind and body. 

  • Students will continue to practise, control, and develop their Fundamental Motor Skills, including throwing, catching, kicking, and bouncing. 

 

These learning experiences support students in building body awareness, improving concentration, and developing coordination. By linking movement with thinking, students begin to understand how physical activity contributes to healthy bodies and minds.

 Year 2 Physical Education

Who We Are

 

Central Idea: 

A balanced lifestyle can develop through movement to teach us about ourselves. 

 

This term, our Year 2 students have been exploring how movement helps us understand who we are and how we can maintain a balanced lifestyle. Through engaging and creative activities, students are discovering the connection between physical movement, self-expression, and wellbeing. 

 

A highlight of this unit has been the integration of gymnastics equipment and movement. Students are discovering different ways of using their bodies in motion, flight, developing strength, making rolling patterns and coordinating balances. These experiences support the development of important Fundamental Motor Skills, including throwing, catching, kicking, and bouncing. 

We look forward to seeing students continue to build confidence, coordination, and self-awareness as they explore movement in meaningful and enjoyable ways. 

  

Year 3 Physical Education

How We Express Ourselves 

 

Central Idea: 

Students explore how they can express themselves both physically and emotionally through the creation of movement, sequences, and skills. 

 

What We’re Learning:

This term in Physical Education, Year 3 students will engage in a variety of activities designed to build their confidence, coordination, and creativity while encouraging personal expression through movement. 

 

  • Students will incorporate aspects of physical fitness into warm-up activities as they prepare for cross country. 

  • They will refine their Fundamental Motor Skills, particularly passing and catching, through modified invasion games such as netball and basketball. 

  • Students will be introduced to key game concepts, including attacking, defending, and moving into space during modified games. 

  • Through gymnastics, students will develop combinations of movement that include flexibility, creativity, rotation, and balance, while expressing themselves using strength and coordination. 

 

These experiences help students build physical skills alongside emotional awareness, teamwork, and creative expression—supporting their overall wellbeing and development.

 Year 4 Physical Education

There are many ways we can keep our bodies healthy and fit. 

 

What We’re Learning: 

This term in Physical Education, Year 4 students will participate in a range of engaging activities that promote fitness, skill development, and personal expression. 

 

  • Students will incorporate aspects of physical fitness into warm-up activities as they prepare for cross country. 

  • They will refine their Fundamental Motor Skills, focusing on passing and catching through modified invasion games such as handball, netball, and basketball. 

  • Students will explore key game strategies, including attacking, defending, and moving into space during modified games. 

  • Through gymnastics, students will develop combinations of movement that include flexibility, creativity, rotation, and balance, while expressing themselves using strength and coordination. 

  • Students will begin developing foundational athletics skills that support physical growth and enhance overall fitness. 

 

These experiences encourage students to build healthy habits, improve coordination and teamwork, and discover enjoyable ways to stay active supporting both their physical and emotional wellbeing.

Year 5 Physical Education  

  

Transdisciplinary theme:

How the World Works 

 

Central idea:

Our environment impacts the lifestyle we lead 

 

Lines of inquiry:   

  • Different environments and weather determine what activity we can do 

  • The way circus skills is performed in many countries varies according to equipment, language and environment 

  • The way our actions help develop movement sequences or skills as a form of creative expression  

  • Environmental expression comes from family and school lifestyles.  

   

Students will:   

  • Refine the basic and complex motor skills of passing, kicking, throwing and catching in game situations to develop their own style of play. We focus on Winter sports as it is a colder time of year 

  • Enhance their fitness for cross country by challenging themselves to race at their own ability in a varied environment. 

  • Continue mastering gymnastics skills through guided flight, rotation and balance movements. Helping students understand that the skill of gymnastics can be universal and found anywhere in the world. A great building block for all sports.   

  

Year 6 Physical Education 

 

Transdisciplinary Theme:

Who We Are 

 

Central Idea: 

We get to know who we are by expressing ourselves through movement and establishing our own sense of culture. 

 

What We’re Learning: 

This term in Physical Education, Year 6 students will explore identity, expression, and personal growth through a variety of physical activities. They will develop their skills, fitness, and understanding of how movement can reflect who they are. 

 

  • Students will refine both basic and complex motor skills—including passing, kicking, throwing, and catching—through game situations. The focus sports this term include lacrosse, soccer, and the introduction of athletics. 

  • They will enhance their fitness for cross country by challenging themselves to perform at their own ability and build endurance. 

  • Through gymnastics, students will create and refine movements that develop strength, creativity, and the ability to express emotions. This includes elements such as flight, rotation, balance, and strength. 

  • Students will express their learning by practicing and repeating movement sequences that incorporate cross-patterning, coordination, and strength. 

 

These experiences support students in developing a deeper understanding of themselves, building confidence, and expressing their individuality through movement. They also strengthen physical skills, resilience, and a sense of personal identity.
