Principal's Report

Welcome back to Term 2. It has been wonderful to see everyone return happy and well, and to see classes settle so quickly back into the rhythm of school life.
ANZAC Ceremony
Congratulations to our Year 6 students who led the ANZAC assembly so capably. I had the pleasure of sitting with former Assistant Principal, Philip Anthony, who remarked on how beautifully our students spoke. I was also touched by the care and support our Year 6 students showed as they guided younger students in delivering their floral tributes.
Across all year levels, the respect shown was outstanding. The quiet attention given to each speaker reflected the deep understanding and maturity of our students. At a time when ANZAC ceremonies can be subject to broader disruptions, I felt especially proud of our school community.
Lunch Clubs
In case you're wondering which lunch club is happening on which day, have a look at the schedule, below. The student leaders supporting each of them are doing a marvellous job of supporting our clubs.
Around the School
Our Student Agency Teams (SAT) are up and running, and I look forward to seeing their student-led initiatives come to life. I have been invited to meet with the SAT leaders and am eager to hear their ideas.
Cross Country will be held on 8 May. This will be my first primary school cross country event, and I am very much looking forward to it. With so many students attending Run Club each week, there is a great sense of excitement building. It has also been fantastic to see the oval in such excellent condition. My thanks go to those who worked hard to improve it last year, and to our neighbour Geraldine, who generously volunteered her time to aerate the oval last term—it looks superb.
Staff Professional Learning
As you know, we have a Curriculum Day on 1 May, where staff will join colleagues from Black Rock, Sandringham and Brighton Primary Schools for a whole-staff professional learning day with Professor Lorraine Hammond. This opportunity has been made possible through strong collaboration between our schools, allowing us to share costs and access high-quality learning. Investing in our staff is key to achieving the best outcomes for all students.
Last term, three staff attended training in maths fluency, which is already shaping our approach and strengthening our Tier 1 and Tier 2 numeracy practices.
This term, eight staff members are undertaking Orton-Gillingham (OG) literacy training at Bentleigh West Primary School. OG training is considered the 'gold standard' and I am thrilled this initiative was able to be realised so soon. Across several weeks, our staff will participate in four full days of learning, focused on how the brain develops reading, spelling, writing and grammar skills. This is an important part of our whole-school literacy approach and supports not only those students who find reading challenging, but all of our students. OG training is essential to our Tier 1 and Tier 2 literacy strategy.
I would like to thank the principal of Bentleigh West for their support, and our PFA for contributing funds towards the materials required for this training.
Fathers Activity Club
These events are designed to bring together all dads—biological, stepdads, foster dads, father figures, and any men who play a caring role in the life of a Beaumaris North Primary School child. Join us to connect, make friends, and build a supportive community.
Shooting Hoops For A Great Cause:
Last weekend we had two teams of BNPS parents participate in the inaugural Ball-Out parent's basketball tournament.
We had two teams participate: The "All Stars" & "Rookies".
Our 'All Stars' team made it through to the Grand final which they lost by 6 points to Haileybury.
The competition was about shooting Hoops for a cause: Team sports for all, helping every kid get the chance to play.
