Principal's Report

Our Term 2 has already been a busy start, with our ANZAC commemoration, school photo day and Year 6 swimming. We are also thrilled that our Auslan lessons have started back up with much enthusiasm! Term 2 is always filled heavily with events, so please remember to check in on Compass and read our fortnightly newsletter.

While it is terrific to see so many of our students actively coming to school on bikes and scooters, I have observed many of our students recently have not been bringing helmets.

I remind our students when I see them, but it is also important that our families ensure that any student who rides their bike/scooter to and from school MUST wear a helmet.

This applies when riding:

• on roads and road-related areas

• on bike and shared paths

• in bike lanes

• in recreational parks

 • in car parks

 • on footpaths.

Police can also stop bike and scooter riders and issue a fine or a warning for not wearing an approved bicycle helmet.

This is a significant safety issue, and we encourage you all to look after yourselves, family, and friends.

School Hats

At Clyde PS, we follow advice and recommendations from the Cancer Council's Sunsmart program. In Victoria, UV levels can be unpredictable and therefore students will require their hat to be available at school, year round, as we may experience a day of high UV levels at any time of year.

ANZAC Day

ANZAC Day Commemoration

At our school, students across all year levels took time to learn about the significance of ANZAC Day and the values of courage, mateship, and sacrifice. Each class created beautiful wreaths, which were respectfully presented during our school assembly.

We were delighted to welcome parents and guardians who joined us for this special commemoration. Their presence made the event even more meaningful and helped create a strong sense of community.

The assembly was a wonderful tribute to our ANZACs, with students showing great respect and understanding of the importance of remembering those who served and sacrificed for our country.

Lest we forget.

Mother's Day Stall and Picnic

Our Mother's Day Stall will take place next Wednesday 6th May.  Each class will be allocated a time where they will be given the opportunity to shop for their special person. Gifts range from $1- $5, please do not send large notes to the stall.  Prices are set to cover costs only and the stall does not make a profit. Students are encouraged to bring a bag to keep their purchases in as bags will not be provided.

Our Mother’s Day Picnic will take place on Friday 8th May, gates will be open from 1.20pm and picnic will commence at 1.30pm.

Our special guests might like to bring a picnic lunch and find an available outdoor space within the school grounds to sit together as a family, we can arrange for siblings to sit together with their special guests.  If the weather is not suitable for an outdoor picnic, then we will move the event inside into classrooms.  If you intend to come to the picnic, please notify your classroom teacher through Compass or in person.

Real Support for Uniforms

Our school is committed to ensuring the cost of school uniforms is not a barrier to sending children to school.   In line with department’s policy, we no longer require students to wear school-branded pants, shorts, skirts, or skorts as part of their uniform.

Students who already own these branded items can continue to wear them for as long as they want.

Our school can apply on behalf of families to request free uniforms or uniform vouchers, and other essential school items. The Victorian Government funds the More Affordable Uniform program, which is managed by not-for-profit organisation State Schools’ Relief.

We're pleased to have access to this program at our school to help students who need it most.

If you need help with the cost of uniforms and school supplies, please contact our Wellbeing Leader, Mrs Taylor via the office, school email or phone. She will confidentially discuss how we can help.

If your child is eligible, we will make an application on your behalf to State Schools' Relief.

If your child is not eligible for the Affordable School Uniforms program, we will talk to you about other options.

Premier's Reading Challenge

We are excited to let you know that your child will be participating in the Premier's Reading Challenge at school this year. This initiative encourages students to develop a love of reading by exploring a wide range of books and setting personal reading goals. Throughout the challenge, students will have the opportunity to track their progress and celebrate their achievements. Your child will also be sent home with their individual login details so they can enter the books they read at home. Families can access the website here: https://vprc.eduweb.vic.gov.au/home. Please ensure that all completed books are entered by 5:00pm on Friday 4th of September.

We look forward to supporting your child on their reading journey and appreciate your encouragement at home.

Student Free Days

We have a Student Free Day on Monday 1st of June. Students will therefore not be required to attend school on this day.

Student Feedback

The Attitudes to School Survey is a voluntary student survey offered by the Department of Education every year to help schools and the department understand students' experiences of school. The online survey asks students in Year 4-6 about their thoughts and feelings about their school, their learning, relationships with other students, resilience, bullying, health and wellbeing, physical activity, and life in general. More information has been sent directly to our Year 4-6 parents via Compass and the survey will be conducted with students in coming weeks.

School Review

This term our staff are preparing for our School Review, which is an important process that takes place every four years for schools. The review is a valuable opportunity to reflect on our achievements, celebrate our progress and identify key areas for growth to ensure we continue to deliver the best possible learning outcomes for our students

Key aspects are:

• All schools undertake a review every four years to inform the directions of the school’s next four-year School Strategic Plan (SSP).

• The Department also assesses compliance with the Child Safe, Operations, Curriculum and Student Learning Minimum Standards.

• School reviews are a key element of the Framework for Improving Student Outcomes (FISO) 2.0 improvement cycle. This is the Department’s model that guides our thinking, reflections and priorities through a learning and wellbeing lens.

There are two components of the school review:

1. The Pre-Review Self-Evaluation (PRSE) is where schools review their data and other evidence, as well as gather feedback, to form a collective view of current practices and areas for improvement, mostly related to the current SSP. A rigorous consultation process, with key stakeholders (students, staff and parents/carers), is an important phase prior to the PSRE being drafted.

 2. The formal review is facilitated by an independent school reviewer, with a panel comprising of the principal and other members of the leadership team, school council president, our network senior leader, and two other principals who act as challenge partners. The panel considers the PRSE and undertakes additional fieldwork activities such as classroom observations, focus groups and interviews with all stakeholders.

The review concludes with a report proposing draft goals, targets and key improvement strategies for the school’s next strategic plan. Then, the four-year phase begins again.

I look forward to sharing the outcomes of the review and the strategic directions that will guide our work over the next four years.
