SWPBS

The week 1 & 2 focus for SWPBS has been on Respect - Keep the footy, netball and basketball pole covers upright.
It’s important that all footy, netball and basketball pole covers are kept upright so they can do their job properly — keeping students safe during play. When these covers are knocked over or damaged, they wear out much faster and can be costly to repair or replace. These items are quite expensive, and every time we need to replace them, it takes money away from other valuable resources for our students, such as new equipment and learning materials. By simply taking care and leaving the covers as they should be, we can help keep everyone safe and make sure school funds are used in the best possible way for all children.
Taking care of belongings and school equipment helps children develop responsibility, respect, and independence. When students look after their things, such as books, stationery, and devices, they are more prepared for learning and waste less time replacing or fixing items. It also reduces unnecessary costs for families and schools, meaning money can be spent on more valuable resources like learning programs, excursions, or new equipment. Learning to care for belongings builds good habits that carry into adulthood, teaching children to value what they have and take pride in their environment.
At home, families can support this by:
Encouraging children to pack and check their school bags each night
Having a consistent place for items like shoes, hats, and homework
Labelling belongings to prevent loss
Setting expectations for tidying up after use (toys, books, devices)
Teaching children to handle items carefully (e.g. closing lids, carrying bags properly)
Involving children in cleaning and organising their space
Praising and reinforcing responsible behaviour
These small routines help children build lifelong skills and a strong sense of responsibility and respect.
